Handmade Goodies - post yours!

Hey guys,
I was wondering who else made their own pin boxes or some other item (letters, etc) for themselves or others. * I think I am going to make my bff in DZ one for her pin over thanksgiving break - for X-mas*

The pin inside is my loaner pin until mine comes in. I have a 10K YG Emeralds with Diamond points badge comming in. It is going to be soo pretty!

Yeah - I am still a current student and yes... those are fuzzy pillows...

That's cute.... if you haven't, put a clear finish on it so that the paint doesn't chip or fade in the future.

We had another thread that was similar to this one, but I have no idea what the search terms would be.

I will try to link some facebook pics I have to some gift baskets and paddles I made.

What is this clear finish that you speak of? I have just made something and I don't want it to chip or fade.

I usually use Rust-oleum Crystal Clear Enamel in a spray can. It provides a "protective glossy finish" and makes things shiiiiine like the top of the Chrysler building!

(They also make a matte finish that isn't as glossy, I believe)

You can get it from Home Depot. Such things can usually also be applied with a paint brush, but the spray paint is more even for me.

proof of what a not-so-talented hand could attempt to make....
I made this paddle over the summer. I have about .1% of any artistic talent. but i am happy with the way the paddle turned out. of course it was just my luck that i painted the thing upside down ( rather, the handle is on the bottom, cause thats what i was holding while i painted, and so to hang it up means you must do a hand stand to read it).
But i just kind of prop it up... until i go out and make a new one... in the right direction

Omega - I'm sorry but that is hilarious!!! :D

Thanks for the pointer. If I can figure out how to post a pic, I will.

You might try using paint pens from Micheal's or other art/crafts stores. They work better than paint and brushes to decorate these objects. I used to paint everyone's big/lil sis stuff, party cups, etc and always had awesome results that looked really professional. No... I am not an artist...I cheated and used a projector to copy designs onto objects then painstakingly filled them in with paint. I'm a little OCD, but I was able to make really cheap gifts that looked really expensive. You may also want to pencil in the design before jumping straight to the paint. It's often really hard to keep things straight and even when free-handing. Good luck with your friend's DZ pinbox.

Yeah, mine was all done using very small brushes and acrilics for the detail-work.
Only took about 1.5 hours to do all the painting - you cant see it in the pics but everything is also shaded

i don't have any pictures yet but i got a ton of really cute homeade gifts from my big this year! :)
a little black book with a blue gel anchor on it with the Delta Gamma symbols on it.
a black notebook with a blue anchor and delta gam girl written on it
a really adorable black photo albumn with a huge sparkly silver anchor on it and "memories" written on it in silver (as well as my name)
and a black memories box written with silver DG related things written on it.
all very very cute.

I made this months ago when I became a pledge. Its wood burned, NOT painted. (And yes BSP sisters, it IS missing something!)

Does no one else go the home made route?

lillady85 12-08-2007 01:20 AM

I do! I made my little a paddle. Still trying to figure out how to get the image on here to work though.
