As a current UNC student, I can tell you that it's competitive, but not nearly as competitive as the SEC schools are. If you're a freshman, you have a lot of options open to you; most girls do get bids, and the majority of girls who don't voluntarily withdrew from rush. I would recommend getting recommendations, though, because it never hurts. They're expecting another really high turnout next year (just like this year) and recs would be a big help, especially if you're a sophomore. Sophomores do regularly get bids, although your options might be slightly limited, and cuts for grades can be tough. Also, there's a new sorority on campus, which just gives you one more option during rush! If you have any more questions, just PM me, I'll be happy to try and answer them.

Competitive, and getting more so for a few reasons. This fall saw large cuts because of the new release figures. I cannot remember if the number was 300 or 400, but one of the houses cut that number after the first round. This year also so a record number of PNMs so that made rush more competitive, especially at the better houses.
My advice is to get recommendations. It never hurts. If you will be rushing as a sophomore, the chances of getting into the more competitive houses has drastically improved. Almost everyone has wised up to the fact that more and more girls are waiting until they are sophomores to rush and as a result, almost all houses are willing to bid them. Aside from getting recommendations, the best thing you can do is keep your grades up. Every house is very intent on a good GPA and it can make or break you at a lot of houses IMO. |
