Sophmore Transfer for Spring Semester

This is for all fraternity members on the site, I was wondering what the view is on someone who transfers to your school and goes to rush in the spring, for me it would be my sophmore spring semester. Is this weird or uncommon or looked down upon?

It’s going to be difficult to give you an appropriate answer without knowing what type of school you go to but that being said…

I was a spring transfer and didn’t have any trouble receiving a bid. The only real problem that I ran into was very few of the fraternities were openly/actively recruiting. On my campus typically spring classes consist of guys that for whatever reason didn’t go through in the fall; so depending on your campus many fraternities might already be set on who they will be bidding in the spring. Don’t let that dissuade you though; I guess the point I’m trying to get across is that you might have to be a bit more proactive in seeking out opportunities. As far as “being looked down upon” for being a spring transfer I was the President of IFC as well as the President of my Chapter; take that for what it’s worth, good luck this spring.

Or vice versa on my campus - the Fall was guys that didn't go through in Spring and Formal Rush is actually the Spring semester...

I realize I'm not in a fraternity, but I'm really good friends with a ton of guys who are, and a lot of them went through in the Spring. The Spring classes are usually only around 10-15 guys but it seems like their classes seem to be a lot closer and more involved with the fraternity than some of the Fall classes, but that might just be on my campus. But good luck with what you decide to do!

Hey - I go to Elon. Freshmen are not allowed to rush their first semester (fall) - so Fall Rush is always very small. Much smaller operation. Since this is mostly sophomores who didn't get bids the year before - pledge classes are pretty small.

Spring rush is the big thing. All the freshmen rushing, plus some sophomores and even less juniors and seniors. The fraternities probably wouldn't care that you are a transfer student. You just wouldn't know any of the brothers going into rush. It might even help you though - because you have a great reason to join a fraternity being a transfer student, not knowing anyone.
