Rude?
Hello today ABC called me to come have dinner with them but I had already made plans with a girl in XYZ for dinner that same night so I told the girl in ABC that I had dinner plans already but I'd like to come on a different night and she said I could next week. While I'm pretty positive I'd rather be in ABC was it rude that I told them I already had plans. Is it basically just telling them youre not interested in their house or do I get respect points because I didnt seem desperate to cancel plans to go to their house.

I think the fact that you made an effort to reschedule with ABC shows them that you are interested.
If you simply said, "Sorry I can't because I already have plans" and left it at that, ABC might have thought you weren't interested. At least that's how I would take it anyway. Be sure to follow-up with ABC to see which night next week they'd like to have you over. If you follow-up, it would also show your interest in meeting with them. :) |
As long as you were friendly in tone, and made it clear that you'd be interested in dinner next week, I wouldn't think that you did a bad thing. You did show that you keep your promises, which is a good thing!
If you see the ABC woman you talked to, or any of the others you know in the coming week, I'd say that you're looking forward to dinner next week or such. Just make it clear that you're open and interested - but DO NOT turn them down a second time! |
The good thing is that you let them know you'd come to the next event. If you hadn't, they might've assumed you weren't interested.

Did you say you had other plans or other plans with XYZ?

I just said..."oh I already have a dinner somewhere else, is there any other day we can do this"
|
Good :) You should be fine then.
