TO RUSH, or NOT TO RUSH :: HELP!::
.
|
1. Great Name!
2. If you want to rush, then go for it! Don't be swayed by the fact that you are black. In my opinion, any organization that would discriminate against you because you are black is not an organization that you would want to be a part of anyway. |
thanks, yea im mostly going to, i just wanted some feedback!

You have nothing to lose and everything to gain by going through rush. There are quite a few Black women on this board who have had a successful rush experience (myself included). Check out the advice threads and such for more info.

I can't think of anyone on this site that would tell you not to rush. Like it has already been said, if a chapter discriminates against you because you are Black, then you wouldn't want to be in that chapter anyway. However, if/when you get cut from a chapter, don't assume it was because of your race; you'll never know why and it could be a multitude of reasons (not to suggest there's anything wrong with you). I don't know where you go to school, as there are varying amounts of diversity among Panhellenics in different parts of the country. Good luck with your recruitment!

i dont know where or not it would be a good idea to state the place of my soon to be attendance? but its in the SEC, yikes

But, please, look around this site and realize that most of us try to NOT use chatspeak. Thanks.:):) |
UF is a competitve recruitment, so it will be very important for you to have good grades (at least a 3.2 of above to be safe), extracurriculars, and recommendations from alumnae of as many of the Panhellenic sororities on campus as you can. Here's a bit of info on how to get recommendations.
http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...ecommendations Yes it's alot of info, but if you're going to rush there, it's important that you take the time to locate sorority alumnae who can write recommendations for you. Here's the link to UF's Panhellenic website with all of the pertinent info. I suggest you contact them with any specific questions: www.ufpanhellenic.com **Also, you should know that a sorority is a time consuming activity. Cheerleading is also very time consuming. I'm sure there are UF cheerleaders who are also in sororities, but it takes a ton of time management skills** |
so its better to get recs from alumnae not current sorority members? b/c i planned on getting mine from graduates that were on my cheer team?

http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...ollegians+recs I think this thread has a list of which ones will accept recs from actives. The rest only accept them from alumnae. GreekChat a good resouce, but your best source of info is UF's Panhellenic website or Greek Life office. |
thanks so much 2 all

I just wanted to say good luck! Don't worry about discrimination - my chapter was pretty diverse (both racially and just in general, we were all sooo different) and that was something we prided ourselves on - and I'm sure you would want to be in a chapter that felt the same way
