Alumnae Help During Recruitment
Something that was mentioned on a current recruitment thread made me think of this.
For those chapters that are small enough that they have either alumanes on the floor helping or sisters from other chapters, is something said or done so the PNM's know which sisters are current sister of the chapter at the school they are rushing at? I know for us (we were a small chapter) we always let the PNMs know by letting hte alumane talk a little bit about life after your out of college, or by mentioning that we get together with other chapters including the chapter that is there, etc. |
GEnerally speaking, PH has to give permission for anyone other than a current chapter member to participate in recruitment. I certainly would not allow any chapters I've worked with to put non-chapter members on the floor without their permission. Could be a HUGE recruitment infraction - particularly in the case of alumnae doing it. Alumnae are not allowed to participate in recruitment - other than behind the scenes - so that would be a big no-no. That being said, I know we've asked at times with struggling chapters and usually PH allows us to do so. See the NPC Manual of Information (Green Book), page MR29; "Initiated collegiate members, new members and national fraternity representatives may assist the chapter with membership recruitment activities."

That's what I mean, when it's a struggling chapter is anything done to make sure the PNM's know who is active and who isn't?

Sorry, didn't totally answer your question...yes, we make it known who is who...I usually put their chapter on their nametag...though, I do know that some folks don't....I'm just more "out front" about things when I'm in charge!

Alumnae at my school wear name tags that state they're alumnae. Our CPH had a rule that anyone who wasn't an active sister at that chapter had to be clearly identified as an alum or as an active from another chapter. We also used to have a rule that alums couldn't interact with PNMs; they could serve drinks and snacks, and that was the limit of what they could do on the floor. By the time I was an alum, that rule had been rescinded; I spoke with a few PNMs when I volunteered to help out with recruitment, but I made sure the PNMs got to meet the actives too.

That's good to know, it doesn't seem though as all schools do it....Like I said, this thought came to me after re-reading a current NM's thread.
