Big/Lil Sis Revelation
 

Hey yall!
I am the Phi Mom (Provisional Member Director) of the Alpha Lambda Chapter. I am trying to find a really great activity for big sis/ lil sis revelation. We have 32 Phis so it needs to be something that can work for that many. Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated!

Here are some things we have done in the past:
-Guess who. Like the board game. Everyone stands, and the lil will ask a question. "Does my big sis have brown hair?" If she does, everyone who does not have brown hair will sit down. Questions continue until the big is the only one left standing.

-Car circle. Everyone parks their cars in a huge circle. Bigs switch cars with someone else and have a sign with their lil's name in the windshield. The lils go around to all the cars in search of thier bigs.

-Maze. We went to a lifesize maze. In the middle of the maze, I taped up balloons (each lil had a certain color balloon). In the balloons were letters to her big's name. She had to unscramble the name to find out who her big was. Then she had to find her way out of the maze to meet her big sis!

What we do at my school is really fun! The big will make two hats exactly the same (one for her, one for her little). People here get so creative with their designs!! On the day of the revelation, the little receives her hat outside her door, then goes to the sorority house where all the bigs are hiding. The little hunts for her big and she knows who her big is because they will be wearing the matching hats!! It's something to defiantly consider. :p

we do a candle pass thing.
All the sisters stand in a circle and then one by one the phis stand in the center of the circle. When a phi is in the center we pass a candle around and when the candle gets to the big sister she blows it out.

Our chapter has a typical class size of 40 to 50, so this year we did this:

Each big chooses/makes a pair of shoes and wraps it up. The littles come in and unwrap their presents and put the shoes on, then they file into a room. The bigs are against the walls, but there is a curtain held up between them and the littles. The littles find the place to stand by finding the foot with the matching shoe (so she looks around and finds her big's foot sticking out from under the curtain). Once everyone has found the right shoe, the curtains are dropped and viola! It's really cute :)

we did a candle decoration and then we made them similar candles. then they had to walk into a room and pick up a clue with their name, go to another room and pick out the candle with their name, the go to the room where we were and find the matching candle. It was so funny because many of them totally had no idea where to look since there were like 44 candles being held out in a big bunch at them! We finally just started walking up to them like "whatever". I think it would work better if they entered in small groups.

This year with our new Phi class we played Guess Who. All of the sisters dressed in silly hats, glasses, scarves, etc. etc. and the Phis came in and would be like "Is my big wearing sun glasses?" and if she was everyone who wasn't would sit down. If you've played the board game Guess Who you'd know what I mean. It was a lot of fun.

Thanks for all of the suggestions! I kind of compiled several ideas from here and facebook discussions. Here is what I finally came up with! It is a little complicated but it turned out really cute!

Fall 2007
“Halloween Present”
Each big wrote 5 clues about who they were. The lils received a clue when they met at the lodge. They caravanned through Ruston making pit-stops to receive more clues from chapter members at these locations. Finally, they ended at the location of revelation where they received a lid to a pumpkin with their name on it. The lid was carved in a puzzle-piece fashion to where their lid would only fit into their pumpkin. Underneath their pumpkin was their final clue which was about the big’s costume/character. The bigs were waiting behind the house inside a cardboard box decorated like their costume or character. The lils had to figure out their big’s character to figure out who their big was. When they found what they thought was their big sis’ box, they knocked and said “This is_____ are you my big sis?” and then they guessed who it was. Their big sis popped out of the top of the box like a big Halloween present!
Some costumes were: cat, dog, flinstones, tinkerbell, Cinderella, Lucy (I love lucy), flapper, cheerleader, etc The boxes were decorated accordingly

Does anybody have any suggestions on a way to do big/lil revealing on campus in a public setting to double up as a great PR event? I like the car circle idea that was mentioned above, but I' not quite sure if that would work....

Last year, the VP of Mem Ed spread all the sisters around the school's University Center where we have our meetings. The "pearls" got note cards with a clue on it to lead them to a sister, they had to find that sister, who gave them a note card to lead them to another sister, that sister had a note card that lead them to their real big sis. They had lots of fun.
The year before, Revealing was on Halloween, and the bigs cut out jack-o-lanterns. They cut out the top like a puzzle piece and put half a poem on it. The littles were given the poems, had to match them up with the top, then had to match the top with the jack-o-lantern. The jack-o-lantern had the final clue that would lead them to their Big.
And the year I went through, The Big Sises had poems, cut them in half and the Little read the first half, then out of the crowd, the Big stepped forward and finished the poem. So cute.

ohh...my god. I'm so sorry..... I did a search....and didnt even realize this was the phi mu forum :( I was searching for it in greek life like "where did that thread go....." and finally pulled up my message history... sorry for the crash....

I'm trying to find ideas for a chapter I've recently started working with. Phi Mu is not on the campus though :p So no worries about yankin' your ideas!

At our chapter the Phi's get clues everyday from their Big for 5 days. And on the last day everyone gathers together in the house and the littles present their clues and the bigs try to confuse them even more. And its all good fun. My big is a sports fan and all my clues were sports teams that the first letter spelled her name. I didnt guess her but when she revealed herself i was so happy to have such a great big. Some bigs get really creatived with their clues. Its really fun. Then we all go to DQ for some ice cream afterwards.
