Do Pi Chi's help choose new members?

Are the Pi Chi's able to be a part of the new member selection? Can they put in a good word for any of the girls in their Pi Chi group??

No. Pi Chi, Gamma Rho's, Sigma Rho Chi's, etc. are to be disaffliated from their chapters completely and have no contact whatsoever. They are not allowed to reveal their affliation until recruitment has concluded.

I think that Pi Chi's disassociate with their house for recruitment and then become a member when the bids are reveled.

I knew that they disaffiliated, but I wasn't sure if they could still be a part of the voting and had any say as pushing for any of the girls in their Pi Chi group.

They can not participate in any voting. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but is it not a recruitment infraction if they communicate with their house about PNM's? (I'm not 100% if it is.)

It is.

I think if a Pi Chi/Rho Chi/Rho Gamma had a SERIOUS problem with a PNM (i.e. stole your boyfriend, saw her do drugs, killed your cat, etc.), they'd be able to tell their chapter. Other than that, Pi Chis do not attend membership selection and do not (or at least should not) communicate with chapter members about PNMs.

I don't think this is true. It may happen, and no one finds out. No interaction is allowed....PERIOD! Pi Chis are to be totally impartial and think only of helping the PNMs not helping their chapters. If they want to help their chapters keep out girls who did drugs, etc. they need to stay on the otherside of recruitment!

...in a perfect world....

Absolutely not. When I was a rho chi, I was not permitted any contact with ANY affiliated sorority members, whether they were in my sorority or not.

AnatraAmore 09-15-2007 09:17 AM

It is definitely an infraction - would it make sense to have these women disaffiliate from their chapters so that they can be inpartial to PNM's and guide them, listen to their concerns, etc. only to turn around and tell their chapter???

Side note: I have a PNM COMPLETELY bash my chapter to me when I was a Rho Chi... the worst part was, I knew that my chapter really liked her. She had attended pref at both and wasn't sure whether or not to list them both on her bid card. It was really hard not to tell my chapter... (She decided to suicided XYZ who didn't really like and did not receive a bid through formal or COB.)

I'm sure there are women who use this position to dirty rush, but I hope they are few and far between.

Absolutely not. When I was a Rho Chi, we had to move out of our sorority house into a hotel where they made sure to take the phones out of our rooms and took our cell phones away for recruitment week. One of the rho chi's did communicate with her chapter and she was removed from her position.

One of my girls had some pretty terrible things to say about ladies in my chapter in between rounds and I just had to ask all PNM's to keep an open mind and keep the tent talk down, the same as I did when they talked poorly about chapters that weren't mine.

No and no. There is zero contact between Pi Chi's and chapters throughout recruitment. They will re-affiliate on Bid Day.

The Pi Chi's role is to be an objective adviser for the PNM, not an outside rusher for her sorority. As a Pi Chi, she represents Panhellenic, not her sorority. The Pi Chi has taken on this role voluntarily. The sorority will be penalized if they compromise this position, and both the sororities and the Pi Chi's know this.

Regardless of disaffiliation rules, you should not say anything in front of a Pi Chi that would really cause you to stand out as a problem PNM.

So, something like "I hate all the chapters I was invited to" is normal PNM frustration and heartbreak, and you can say it in front of your Pi Chi.

Something like "I almost didn't make it here in time because I am so tired from the coked-up threesome I had last night" is very likely to get back to the Pi Chi's chapter, and possibly others.
