Do Pi Chi's help choose new members?
Are the Pi Chi's able to be a part of the new member selection? Can they put in a good word for any of the girls in their Pi Chi group??

I think that Pi Chi's disassociate with their house for recruitment and then become a member when the bids are reveled.

I knew that they disaffiliated, but I wasn't sure if they could still be a part of the voting and had any say as pushing for any of the girls in their Pi Chi group.

I think if a Pi Chi/Rho Chi/Rho Gamma had a SERIOUS problem with a PNM (i.e. stole your boyfriend, saw her do drugs, killed your cat, etc.), they'd be able to tell their chapter. Other than that, Pi Chis do not attend membership selection and do not (or at least should not) communicate with chapter members about PNMs.

Absolutely not. When I was a rho chi, I was not permitted any contact with ANY affiliated sorority members, whether they were in my sorority or not.

It is definitely an infraction - would it make sense to have these women disaffiliate from their chapters so that they can be inpartial to PNM's and guide them, listen to their concerns, etc. only to turn around and tell their chapter???
Side note: I have a PNM COMPLETELY bash my chapter to me when I was a Rho Chi... the worst part was, I knew that my chapter really liked her. She had attended pref at both and wasn't sure whether or not to list them both on her bid card. It was really hard not to tell my chapter... (She decided to suicided XYZ who didn't really like and did not receive a bid through formal or COB.) |

One of my girls had some pretty terrible things to say about ladies in my chapter in between rounds and I just had to ask all PNM's to keep an open mind and keep the tent talk down, the same as I did when they talked poorly about chapters that weren't mine. |

The Pi Chi's role is to be an objective adviser for the PNM, not an outside rusher for her sorority. As a Pi Chi, she represents Panhellenic, not her sorority. The Pi Chi has taken on this role voluntarily. The sorority will be penalized if they compromise this position, and both the sororities and the Pi Chi's know this. |
Regardless of disaffiliation rules, you should not say anything in front of a Pi Chi that would really cause you to stand out as a problem PNM.
So, something like "I hate all the chapters I was invited to" is normal PNM frustration and heartbreak, and you can say it in front of your Pi Chi. Something like "I almost didn't make it here in time because I am so tired from the coked-up threesome I had last night" is very likely to get back to the Pi Chi's chapter, and possibly others. |
