Pavarotti Dies at Age 71

http://music.msn.com/music/article.a...4370&GT1=7702&

ROME -- Luciano Pavarotti, whose vibrant high C's and ebullient showmanship made him the most beloved and celebrated tenor since Caruso and one of the few opera singers to win crossover fame as a popular superstar, died Thursday. He was 71.

His manager, Terri Robson, told the AP in an e-mailed statement that Pavarotti died at his home in Modena, Italy, at 5 a.m. local time. Pavarotti had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last year and underwent further treatment in August.

Oh no!!!!! That's so sad. That damn pancreatic cancer. :(

AlphaFrog 09-06-2007 07:33 AM

I'm sad. As soon as I heard the story on the radio, I pulled out a CD that had a few of his arias and listened. He was never my favorite, but it's still sad.

This morning I was driving to work and this story came on NPR, and I instantly thought of you AlphaFrog, Idk why but I know you like Opera, and I was like, oh I have to post this if they haven't already!

it is very sad :(

I have been devastated all morning about this. Pavarotti WAS opera, Caruso was just his predecessor.

I heard a few months ago that he had pancreatic cancer, and I've known several people who die of it merely weeks after they first hear about it. I would like to see more funding go towards research on the deadliest forms of cancer such as this kind.

This is sad.

Prostate cancer is easily treated, if caught early enough.

Here is some info from the American Cancer Society about prostate cancer:

We will be discussing Prostate cancer at our chapter meeting tonight, with a guest speaker and everything.

Pavarotti had pancreatic cancer though, which is one of the quickest and deadliest to have.

:(

Aren't we blessed to have had Pavarotti in our lifetime? May he be blessed.

Whenever I get a client with pancreatic cancer, I have to make sure I don't get too emotionally involved - six months is a LONG time for it. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

As for prostate cancer, my godson's father started a new job which required a physical. They didn't test him for prostate cancer, and he questioned it (he was 42 at the time). By the time he was 51, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, and they told him he had had it at least 10 years! He passed away two years ago - and my godson was only nine.

oh no. i loooove "i hate you then i love you" that he does with celine dion. an absolutely beautiful voice..............so sad. :(

MysticCat 09-06-2007 02:27 PM

Pavarotti was initiated as an honorary member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia by the Beta Tau chapter in 1978.

As with AlphaFrog, he was never my favorite, but he did have a beautiful voice and he, like Beverly Sills, made opera more accessible to many who otherwise might not have been exposed to it.

May he rest in peace.

Oh, may I join the choir invisible
Of those immortal dead who live again
In minds made better by their presence....
