Legacy to Pledge in Spring 08

My father was a Beta at the same university that I attend. Next semester I plan on pledging. Any advice out here.~Aj Robinson~Eastern Kentucky Univesity -A Future Man of Principle-

My only advice is not to turn a blind eye to what other groups have to offer. Don't get me wrong, I'm 100% Beta, but I wouldn't automatically assume that my sons or other family members would be great Betas. No matter what you ultimately choose to do, we wish you the best of luck.

If I'm lucky, my future sons will choose to bet Betas, too...

I was about to say what ECUJacob was going to say... don't join Beta just because your Dad was a Beta... join if the chapter and the fraternity is right for you! There are some other great fraternities out there too, and just look around, so that if you do join Beta it is because it is the best fit for you, not because of your dad

AJ, I have a very good friend who is a Beta at EKU. HE LOVES IT! They are a strong chapter and have an awesome alumni base/advisor board. but again....don't join Beta just because its whats expected of you. Join the group of guys that make you the most comfortable, and that you would hang out with even if you weren't all in the same group. Whatever you decide, i'm sure your dad will understand...
Good Luck!

Same advice here...

Everyone seems to be giving you the same advice BetaLegacy. While I honestly suggest that you give Beta an attempt, you should give the other fraternities a chance, too...

Be open minded, attend other fraternity's recruitment events. Even if they don't attract you for membership, you're sure to come across some fun events you would miss out on otherwise.

Let us know what happens!

If you're heart is set on Beta and they are a solid chapter at the school you are going to attend then there is no problem with forgetting about the other chapters. Then again you can still go around to other events and recruit other men you would like to see as a brother.

im a legacy for gamma phi and thats the one i joined but its because loved the girls and felt at home (i know your a boy so its different but still its the same in some ways) keep in mind that chapters change througout the years and at different schools

Spot on! When you rush, bring three or four other friends that are cool and pledging will be even better.

Why would anyone ever try to sell another fraternity?! Hell, during Rush you would bring up the 'look at other frats' but make sure they know the differences and why it's great to be a Beta. Unless the kid is a tool and you want him to rush another frat and leave you guys alone and to not scare away other rushees.

Hopefully we shall all be that lucky.

"Why would anyone ever try to sell another fraternity?!"

I'll quote what I already stated: "...I wouldn't automatically assume that my sons or other family members would be great Betas."

Just because you're a legacy due to your grandfather, father, brothers, etc., doesn't necessarily mean that you would fit in with the same chapter or their principles. It's ignorant and foolish to think otherwise. I simply said that even if he is set on Beta that it still wise to experience other groups to see what other chapters are like and how they differ from us.
