Ice Water Teas

I ran across the term "ice water tea" in a 1945 LIFE magazine article concerning sorority rush at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

I was wondered exactly what is an ice water tea and are such events still held.

I am just being curious.

If you read the current SEC recruitment threads going on, you'll see that yes, Ice Water Teas are still held. It's usually the first day/night of recruitment where all the PNMs meet all the sororities on campus.

Ice Water is served to the PNMs by all the houses and it's only ice water that they can serve. Things are equal between all the houses that way.

This is true, Ice Water Teas are usually held on the first round & even if the recruitment guidebook doesn't necessarily say it is an Ice Water Tea event, it really is to the women behind recruitment. Everyone is offered ice water & only ice water, and can't leave the house with even an empty cup, or its seen as a "gift."

Yup, here at FSU, the first two days of Recruitment are called, colloquially, Ice Waters. :D

That's what we always called the first round. We served ice water, talked up the Greek System and showcased our individual chapters' involvement with university activities.

I think they have since changed the name to "UCF Spirit Day," but they still only serve ice water.

I wish they served ice water at every round. Soda and punch are nice, but they make your breath smell funny.

i think that the phrase came from the time the parties were held back in the day: during the afternoon, or tea time.
