Other organizations to serve

Sooooo.......lets say the worse thing in the world (just kidding) happened and you were not accepted into a sorority or fraternity:eek::eek::eek:! Or in addition to your fraternity or sorority.

What other organizations would you join or try to join or be involved with?

Maybe you want to be involved in them all at once or maybe just in your lifetime.

Me:
My Chuch: I am always doing stuff there!!:D
Girl Scouts: I was one and I assist a troop:)
Urban Leauge: My friend's mom is the President and CEO in my hometown
Red Cross
Junior Leauge: If possible one day

There are others I would like to be involved with ....I will add them later.

- Junior League
- Amnesty International
- *serving a non-profit board - I was just 'interviewed' and recommended for membership. This is an excellent way to serve your community, and many people don't take advantage of it.

I am involved with my daughter's Girl Scout troop and my son's Boy Scout troop although I'm no longer a leader. Those are good. If I didn't do Alpha Gam stuff, I would probably get involved in the League of Women Voters. It's a family tradition that I haven't yet picked up (grandmother, great aunt and mother were all Presidents of regional Leagues). I would also be more involved in the school groups... Parents associations, band boosters, and possibly the School Board.

If only I'd win that Mega Millions so that I could have time for all of it!

Getting more involved at church (women's ministry here I come)

Board member for a non-profit org

Still BLUTANG 08-13-2007 12:01 PM

I am a member of the Urban League, and am entering my provisional year for Junior League. I'd like to become a board member for my Literacy Council (i'm a volunteer tutor) and/or a board member for our local Friends of the Library group.

I could always be more active in church. right now i'm holding it down as a moocher in our Young Adult Ministry (meaning: i come out to fun events. don't attend meetings or help with any planning).

When i am a "grown up" i plan on getting involved with NCNW and 100 Black Women.

how did everything with your local station board (public radio) go? Is this the interview you're talking about? I remember you talking about this a while back, i think...

Good memory! ;) I'm actually possibly joining one of the public radio station's advisory committees. They meet every 3 months and I missed the June meeting, so I'm trying to make the September one. Actually, this interview was for the domestic violence shelter in my area.

Girl Scouts of the USA - I am a life member, so it is a lifetime ;)
The American Red Cross - 25 years involvement now ;)
Toys for Tots / Operation Christmas

I have projects for all kinds of others...

If I wasn't an Alpha, I'd probably consider getting active with the Washington Urban League.

EyesOnThePrize 08-13-2007 01:08 PM

I'm in the Junior League (placed as Planning Assistant to the VP this year).

I've been trying to do some docent work so that I can sit on the board at LACMA next year.

I hope to be a Link by the time I turn 35.

I also am apart of an org. called Reading to Kids.
