IFC/NPC Problems
Hey everyone, I could use some help.
I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice. Does anyone else have problems at their schools with the Greek Life office not allowing the IFC and NPC to not, basically, do their job? For example, the IFC and Panhellenic Advisors both consistently circumvent the IFC/NPC constitution. The Judicial Boards are not allowed to follow their procedures, Advisors "kicking off" Council members without due process, etc., etc. The list can truly go on! I was just wondering if this was a typical occurrence at other schools...or if we were in the minority. Please help! Thanks! |
Yeah, I've heard of instances of the administration overruling IFC decisions in the past. It probably depends on how the administration feels about Greek life in general, as well as whether the school is public or private. Private universities can do whatever the hell they want. Stetson banned Slip & Slides for all student organizations last semester...

We go to a good sized public university over 25,000 students with a fairly large Greek System. Anyone having the same problem?
 |
You may need to go to your national office and ask for them to speak with your Advisor. If this doesn't work your Nationals can call the HQ of the other houses on your campus and go from there.
I know that IFC on my Campus was allowed to run itself. The Greek Advisor was not a member of IFC she was just a guest. Actually on one ocassion while I was Judicial Chair I asked her to leave meeting and she obliged. When our judicial board comes to a decision she has to sign off on the punishment. She actually made a punishment we handed down even more harsh. In this instance It may have been fair. Now our NPC is different she actually has a position on their executive board and has a hand in the decision process. |
This is not something that you students can or even should take on as it might only serve to strain relations even further. Contact your Inat'l IFC or NPC delegate(s) and inform them of the problems. Hopefully then all the IFC/NPC delegates will be able to negotiate with the Univ Admin.
It might be a situation where the problem is not with the entire Univ Admin (though there are some of those) but rather the individual Advisors. It could be as simple as those Advisors not being properly informed/trained about IFC/NPC policies and procedures. Or then again it could be they know exactly how things are supposed to be done yet choose to ignore it anyways. But whatever the cause, again it's best dealt with on the overall IFC/NPC/Inat'l level. |
