Standing of Chapters
Has anybody gotten a report on any of the zetas or colonies who went before the Standing of Chapters committee in Memphis? I had several long conversations with a brother from Colony 284 Texas A&M International, and I've been dying to know if they stayed open.
Anybody know anything? |

Thanks for the update, Honky! I got the sense that these guys don't quite have their act together just yet, but that they're trying really hard. I'm glad they get another chance. Ricardo was supposed to email me when he found out, but either he forgot, or my spam filter blocked him. I didn't get his email address, but I told him about this board, so maybe he'll show up here.

Status of Chapters
I believe that one chapter may have been closed; if I understood correctly, they didn't even show up! It may well have been one of the chapters / colonies which appeared in 2006 in Orlando and was given a year to reform. Guess they "chose poorly".

While it is old history now-G A in Indy, I sat on the committe for colonies, to decide whether they stayed or not.
We finally okayed all involved. NC A & T became Chartered and Un. Alaska was closed. And one Zeta was closed and they also had no one there. It is aways sad to see one of us go. It is not our decession, it is theirs. I wish there would be more updates on Colonies and Zetas about who is coming and who is gone. |

Other chapters are closed because of a change in University policy; I recall one up north, perhaps in Maine, that closed in response to a school dictate that they go coed. Clearly not a 'decision' of the undergrads in that case. It isn't always a case of chapter culpability. |
My Chapter UW-Whitewater is starting to Recolonize this Fall. The alumi have made some big changes in the way they view the chapter and how they want things to be done. They were reconized for having a excellent Alumi webpage this year. I hope to keep everyone up dated on the return of Lambda Iota Zeta.

John, I agree most whole heartedly with you on Alaska. They almost certainly did not ahve a prayer of making it because of the circumstances you mentioned. I never ment that each time it is the chapters fault. Alfred Un. in N Y disbanneded all GLOs several years back because of a death in a local, which the LXA chapter was doing very well. But in most cases, it is the chapters fault for being closed whether it be hazing, low membership, or owing money being the big three. I think that the plan by IHQ from what I understand is to recharter and break new ground is very worth while. I am sure all of us would like to see both recharters and new colonies. I know of several schooks in the Kansas, Missouri states I would love to see opened or reopened. |
Interesting question;
Do you think a fraternity is more the product of their environment (campus, town, state, greek community, etc.) or a product of the G.L.O (teachings, values, ritual, etc.)? |

Has this information come out yet officially? I was one of the 10 brothers on this year's SOC committee and I know how we voted for each but it has to be approved by the GHZ. Let me know if any of this is official, because everything you all are saying doesn't seem to be exactly consistent with how it went down. I'd be interested to know.

A & M International?
I'm curious about them myself. I really had nothing to do in Memphis and thought that I might get tagged to sit on one of the committees but such was not the case.

Yes in the initial step with the training that each one gets. From then on, it is up to the Chapter to keep continuning. But in scouring different Mens GLOs and getting magazines from many it is interesting with what they are doing to change the out look of what is done and expected of the members of the chapters. In discussing this last night with a member of another GLO it was interesting what His Fraternity did some years back and what they are doing now. Lets just say he was not thrilled with some of the changes but others. So, from our conversation it sounds like well all may hve the same problems. |
