DO NOT CALL: Important Cell phone info
Most of you already know that you can use the do not call registry to block incoming numbers from your phone...however my mom called me a little while ago to tell me something that is disturbing. A loophole has been found that lets telemarketers not only call your cell phone but charge YOU $3.75 and up for any call that YOU answer. She got her bill and had 4 charges on it and called the carrier and after spending 1/2 an hr disputing the charges, her carrier Sprint (of course) removed the charges and directed her to also register her number on the do not call registry,...so if you have a moment from your cell, call this number 888-382-1222 or use the link https://www.donotcall.gov/default.aspx.

Sorry, I don't know about this, your mom or not. Every thing I can find online shows that Cell phones are NOT allowed to be called BECAUSE you pay for the incoming call no matter what. There's no way that Sprint, Verizon, etc. would willingly let someone else send your phone number a charge. That doesn't make sense.
http://www.snopes.com/politics/business/cell411.asp And from this month: http://westsidestar.net/articles/200...de_news/29.txt It sounds more likely that she had a "relationship" with someone on that cell phone number and thats why they called her. (Voting, using that number as a contact when purchasing, etc. can all be "relationships") Rules for calling Cell phones from "Safecaller.com" http://www.safecaller.com/cell-phone...-call-list.asp |

She was saying that it likely did happen, but not because of "telemarketing" (so the "do not call" list wouldn't matter) . . . most likely, she gave the cell # out as part of some promotion, or in a 'fishbowl' giveaway, or signing up for something. This means she can be called, generally, because it's outlined in the fine print - so yeah. No case, no "do not call" list will matter, and no one else was using her phone. |

Regardless all......if you haven't done so, just register your phone... END OF THREAD. |
