Sigma Nu - Random

Post your random thoughts here.

I do have a random comment -- keep up the activity here, y'all. I've modded this forum since (I think) 2003. In the last 3 months, this forum went from 900ish to 1300ish. In other words, in the last 3 months, there have been more posts in this forum than would generally occur in an entire year in the past.

It would really be great for this to be a place where Sigma Nus from various chapters could share ideas and make themselves better.

The actives from my chapter look at me like I am retarded when I talk about greekchat.com. I try to tell them about it but they haven't caught on yet.

What kinda dream would it be to have a sweet forum on the nationals website? It would live or die depending on whether we actually used it though.

If I were HQ, I'd be concerned that folks would use such a site to campaign for grand offices, push agendas for the Grand Chapter, etc. -- things which generally only happen in certain committees.

Or maybe they just haven't really thought about it?

well the forums would be password protected and what's wrong with discussing our affairs....last Grand Chapter my guys were upset that it felt like deals were brokered before the event even started. What better way to have a transparent discussion that all members can be a part of than a private members only forum that any brother could see?

Exactly. Why would those who make decisions want to water down their ability to change fraternity policy even more than it already has been? A HQ-run message board would allow non-committee members to propose and promote their own legislation. If I were with HQ, I'd be concerned that my committees wouldn't be the only places these decisions were being made anymore.

I'm not sure that's what they want. My experiences with Grand Chapters have generally been the same as yours -- things were done deals by the time they got to the floor. Why would the HQ want to give membership 2 years to debate new proposals rather than only 2 hours?

When I went to Grand Chapter there were things that were decided without proper discussion.

I was debating something from ritual and I was basically told that they had looked at it and the situation was under control. I don't want to put details here but if you want to know what they were send me a PM. It involved the Candidate and Initiation Ceremonies.

Yeah, it was about to drop down to namecalling so I decided to pass. My next post was essentially pointing out that my school cost roughly 6X's as much as his to attend per semester

What's funny is that he's a Kappa Sig.... If you only knew. We butted heads with KE all the time on my campus. Seems it has carried over to life. Funny.
