Can only alumnae write recs?

I don't think I've ever read a recruitment story or anything on here where rec letters didn't come from an alum. One of my good friends is rushing in the fall, and I was wondering if I would be able to write a rec for her. I've known her since we were in diapers, so I feel like I could really speak out about her positive qualities. However, I was just initiated in the spring... so I don't know if my letter would even be of good use.

Are only alumnae allowed to write recommendation letters, or does it not matter if a sister is still active within her chapter? Since I'm on the west coast, I really don't know much about recs! :)

It depends on the sorority. Mine is one that only allows recs from alumnae. Some NPCs do allow collegians to write recs for PNMs. There are stipulations in some groups though (like an alumna must co-sign).

I think there's a rec related thread around here somewhere with a list of the ones that do. I can only think of Kappa Alpha Theta, Kappa Kappa Gamma & Alpha Delta Pi off the top of my head, but I know there are more.

It does depend on the sorority as KSUViolet06 mentioned above :)

You can write a rec as a Gamma Phi Beta collegian. If you go to the members board, you can take a look at the Reference Form. At the bottom there are blanks to denote whether you are an Alumna or Collegian.

I think we TRIED to start a list of which sororities do/don't allow collegians to write recs. You might be able to locate that thread.

ASA allows any initiated sister to write recs.
