University of Central Florida Rush
I'm so excited about rush at UCF! GO KNIGHTS!! BUT! There is one major problem! I have no idea what to wear or how to act or anything! I've been reading what they say you should wear, but I have heard you should wear nicer stuff to get noticed. (heels, etc.) Do I have to live in the house? Is there anything specific I should know about UCF rush? Nobody in my family has ever been involved in Greek Life. I just don't know what to do! I know I am a fun outgoing person, but can anybody from UCF help me out?

That's an old link. This is the current UCF Pan web site:
http://www.ucfpanhellenic.com/ Lavender, good luck with UCF recruitment! Make sure you register online for recruitment and check out the What To Wear page. UCF recruitment is a little more casual, attire-wise. We don't wear prom dresses, so look cute within the suggested dress code. :) You will be assigned a Rho Gamma (recruitment guide) at Greek Forum. She will meet with you every day during recruitment. All of the Rho Gammas will make sure you are in the right place and be able to answer any questions you might have about the process. At Greek Forum, you will learn all about recruitment and what to expect. The Rho Gammas also put on a fashion show, so they can answer any questions you have about what to wear. :) It's a really fun kick-off event! At each sorority event, you will be immediately paired with a sorority member who will be your hostess at the event. As for living in the house-- each sorority has a different policy and requirement. Some may have a mandatory live-in requirement at some point, others may not. And some of the chapters do not have housing at all! You can ask these questions when you meet the sororities. Good luck! |

As long as you keep an open mind to all 10 of the sororities at UCF, and stick it out through the end, you have a very good chance of getting a bid with one of the 10 sororities.
The best advice I can give you is to tune out anything the other PNM's are saying about their favorite sororities. There are a few chapters that everyone may be buzzing about, and after the first round of cuts, there may be a few girls who are really upset and crying because they figured after one meeting that one of these was the sorority where they belonged. Don't be one of these girls. Look instead at all of the sororities and find something to like about each of the ones when you attend their parties each day. Eventually, you will start feeling a pull toward one. You want to join the sorority where you feel like you can be yourself-- at your best or even at your worst. I'm the first Greek in my family, too. :) Good luck and have a blast! ETA: Panhellenic should be mailing out a recruitment "101" guide this week, or you can stop by the Panhellenic office in the Student Union and pick one up. :) |
Good luck lavender333! All of the above advice is excellent! Adpiucf definitely knows her stuff!
The best thing I can add is to simply relax. So many times, PNM’s stress out and worry about how the process works, what to wear, and what everyone else thinks. Just let it go! Have fun and take things as they come. All the chapters are filled with wonderful women. In my opinion, you really can’t go wrong! You’re going to have an awesome sorority experience no matter what group you end up joining. <Getting off Pan soap box> Also, whatever you do, don’t forget your umbrella!:p |
Just bumping: I am visiting UCF next week! :) I am meeting a friend at UCF next week and we're going to spend the day wandering around campus.
It's been a few years since I last had the opportunity to do this, and I'm always amazed at the changes!!! From sorority houses being painted new colors to brand new buildings on sites where I used to park my car in a dirt lot... the school just keeps growing! Can't wait to attend the first home game of the year in our brand-new on-campus football stadium!!! BTW: my friend is one of my "PX Buddies" - we met when we were PNMs during Greek Forum .... 10 years ago this August!!! |
