Ewwww, are you kidding me? (TMI for the sensitive)

Someone told me that one of her students' grandmothers told her not to bath/shower during the wrong time of the month. As a result, the student has body odor.

Why? Is it some sort of superstition or something?

Has anyone heard of this?

Yes, this was an old wives' tale that if you bathed or showered while you were menstruating, you would catch a cold.

My cute little booklet that I got from the Kotex people informed me this was completely untrue, however, and that baths and showers were doubly important at "that time."

There was a girl in my Girl Scout troop who came from a family who believed this. She was a very nice girl, but very smelly, and as a result had few friends in the troop. I remember we had quite a few of those "personal hygiene and grooming" lessons/activities, including some mother/daughter activities, to try and reach out to this girl but none of them worked. Her parents really believed that bathing during menstruation was wrong, and the poor girl had to suffer because of it.

When I first got my period years ago, I had two really superstitious aunts who told me that, if I washed my hair during my period...it would turn white.

I actually believed this for a few months. I went 4-5 days without washing my hair.

This thread reminds me of the episode of the Cosby Show where Rudy gets her period for the first time and her friends fill her head with myths.

"Because without 'a visit from Aunt Flow' there would be no uncles!"

When your penis starts bleeding for a week every month, then you can tell us where we can and cannot go on our periods. Until then, STFU.

You can take a bath and swim with a tampon in. I'd be a little nervous in the ocean though...I'm already scared of sharks, don't need to be putting out the call for them.:p

I hate those commercials! They disgust me and I'm a girl. lol. I don't want to watch any commercial about menstruation, erectile dysfunction, or yeast infections!

ps- does anyone remember the pregnancy test commercial that ended with "The most advanced technology you'll ever pee on." What's wrong with these people.

Ok back to the original thread. :p

I thought that was the best pregnancy test ad ever!
