member selling own badge on ebay
Sisters, there is an ASA selling several lots of ASA items on ebay. She is also selling her badge and ribbons from ceremonies. According to the location of the items, I think she's from the Alaska chapter. Is there anything that can be done about this?
Here is the link to the auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/Brand-New-Alpha-...QQcmdZViewItem |
Maybe she really needs the money? I'm saddened by this. Could the Alaska chapter advisor contact her to discuss this?
And the fact she is selling "Pledged" with her ASA stuff. (????) |
I sent a note to their advisor. I'm assuming it is someone from that chapter and not the closed colony at Fairbanks (I don't think any of them were ever initiated).

Well, all I can say is everything is definitely overpriced. She must have de-activated (dropped her letters). The pin may go, but everything else is high priced. I don't think there is anything we can do. Also, the pin for sale should be reported to HQ. It's summer and I doubt a chapter advisor is actively doing advisor stuff (speaking from experience). However, the chapter advisor from Alaska did get the advisor of the year award. Even so, there isn't much an advisor can do, especially if she did drop.
|
Even if they are on summer break, I would think if she knows what's going on/who the girl is she might be able to do something about it. Your position doesn't go "on break" because the school year is over (speaking as someone who gets FCT emails every week).

I know the position of an advisor doesn't go on break, however there isn't as much business to attend to. They don't meet regularly, and I highly doubt any advisor puts as much time into ASA during the summer as she does during the school year. It's probably close to impossible to track down majority of the girls. Anyways, it may help to contact the advisor, she can possibly do something about it. So yes, it is good for her to know. However, if the girl who is selling her stuff did drop (which I am assuming she did- how in the world would you sell your badge if you didn't), there really isn't much that can be done to stop her. It's morally wrong to sell your badge, but she can sell as much merchandise as she pleases. All I am saying, there really isn't much that can be done.

We were told at initiation by our advisor that the badge is not ours to keep and should we die or leave the sorority, it has to be returned back to headquarters. If this girl really did terminate, then it should've been the responsibility of the advisor and chapter officers to make sure that she turned it in.

I have no issue with her selling the merch (except for the Pledged book being included as an "ASA thing" - yuck), but if she's still an active and she's selling it because 1) she had an issue with the chapter or 2) because she's broke, maybe the advisor can do something in that regard.
|
I understand that life happens...but she's got A LOT of stuff. Unless she had 5 bigs, she probably bought a lot of that herself, and if she's broke, she needs to rethink her priorities.
|
I agree that she should re-think her priorities. I was also a little shocked that the Pledged book was listed with ASA. Wow.

Too bad they're all completely wrong. Although I guess if she's trying to sell to collecters, it might catch their attention. But I would think that the collecters would just be after the pin, and not the other stuff. |
Alaskan ASA
I am a member of the Theta Delta Chapter at the University of Alaska, Anchorage and a sister of the member currently selling these items online. This situation was just brought to my attention and I am deeply saddened to hear of what my sister has done. She is no longer an active member and I can only assume feels that she no longer has a responsibility to the sisterhood we all cherish so much. I wanted to express also that she has been made aware of her mistakes and our chapter and our AMAZING chapter advisor are doing what we can to solve this problem. I apologise on behalf of my sister and my chapter for this incident and I pledge to make my sisters more aware of their responsibility to Alpha Sigma Alpha and all of the sisterhood's property.

She's at it again! Lots of stuff (including the Pledged book and her badge) up for sale. It's way overpriced. I was going to bid and donate it to the district day foundation auction, but since she is selling her pin- she ain't gettin a dime from me.
