Passover

I wanted to wish everyone out there that celerates Passover, a safe healthy one.
And I also wanted to state that while I am not Jewish I think I am addicted to Matzoh. I think I need like some Matzoh Anon. or something, I love Matzoh!

Good thought! I hope everyone had a great Seder also! I celebrated Palm Sunday and am looking forward to Holy Thursday, Good Friday and of course, Easter! To all my Catholic buddies - remember - this is like our Super Bowl for the week http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif Try to do one good deed a day - (it's easy - let someone merge in front of you on the highway or open the door for a senior citizen) -
and finally - remember everyone - no matter what bad thing you have done in life- you can always be forgiven!!

Sorry to get all church like on you all but hey - it is that time of the year! Take care and much love! Sue

Try eating it for 8 days in a row..trust me, that will cure you. So far we've had:

Matzo with butter & jam
Matzo pizza
Mazto farfel stuffing
Cakes & brownies made with matzo meal

I think we've got matzo coming out of our ears! We had 17 for 2nd Seder on Sunday night and I'm still recovering. Our friends know how we cook and came hungry - it was like feeding a school of pirhanas!

My good friend is having passover sedar on the 21st, so I am going to celebrate then. I am not Jewish, but I am very much an admirer and celebrant of the Jewish faith! I've thought about converting many times!

The 21st? That's almost a full week after Passover ends. Any particular reason why the event is so late?

Just curious,
Barbara

P.S. We are fortunate to have witnessed the 'finalization' of conversion for several of our close friends. It's wonderful to be a part of such a life and faith affirming moment. Our synagogue is full of Jews by choice - in fact, last year's executive board was 75% converts. :-)

I know next to nothing about the Jewish faith - so I have no idea what Matzoh is. Please help me out!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Matzo is unleavened bread - a cracker of sorts really. It is made from water and special flour. It is made quickly - about 18 minutes from when the water hits the flour until it pops out of the oven. It is mostly tasteless and boy, is it binding if you know what I mean. Think of baked library paste, LOL.

During Passover (which celebrates the Exodus from Egypt), observant Jews do not eat any leavened products or grains and legumes (there are some exceptions, long story). Instead of bread, we eat matzo. Instead of flour, we use matzo cake meal (finely ground matzo) and instead of crumbs, we use matzo meal (coarsely ground matzo). Since you can't use any leavening (yeast, baking powder), you tend to use ALOT of eggs in your baking and even a small pan of brownies comes out of the oven weighing about 5 pounds!

If you check the Passover link on my synagogues' web site, you can learn more and follow many Passover-related web links, too.
