how to go alumn?
 

okay ladies, I swear this isn't for me. My best friend is pretty much over sorority, but doesn't want to drop. We are trying to figure out if she can go alumn. As far as I know, its 4 years in sorority, or 4 years out of HS, right? But my mom is an alumna and she didn't stay in 4 years... how does getting engaged/married fit in? What exactly are the rules for going alumn?

Each sorority has different rules on this matter. If this friend is a Gamma Phi, she needs to contact the chapter president or advisor. Our rules/procedures for obtaining alumna status are pretty clear and outlined.

Generally speaking (don't want to go into much detail on a public board), you have to complete 4 years of college or your original academic class has to graduate. A sister in this situation would be considered a fifth year senior and the chapter would follow our procedure for determining her status. Marriage can be handled in different ways. This sister really needs to contact the president or advisor to determine her options.

At the end, why would she want to become an alumna if she is "over sorority?" I'm not sure her sorority on the larger level would want someone to maintain membership if she is over them. I know I wouldn't. What's the point? This is a lifetime membership and if she's not interested in the lifetime part, she can just resign and return her badge and membership certificate.

I'm not trying to be mean, just realistic.
