A Boy Named Hell

Quote:

MELBOURNE — The Hell family says it may tell a Roman Catholic school in Australia where to go after it objected to enrolling their son because of his name.

Officials said the boy had been offered a place at the St. Peter the Apostle school in the southern city of Melbourne after discussions between the principal, the parish priest and the family over his name.

The Rest

What the hell!! LOL

I can see if the kid's name was Hell Smith or something...but this is their family name - there's nothing he can do about it.

From "The Simpsons"
Homer vs. Lisa and the Eight Commandment

Marge: So, what did you children learn about today?
Bart: Hell.
Homer: Bart!
Bart: What? That's what we learned about. I'm sure as *hell* can't tell you we learned about *hell* unless I say *hell*, can I?
Homer: The lad's got a point.
Bart: Hell, yes!
Marge: Bart!
Bart: Hell! Hell! Hell! Hell! Hell! Hell! Hell! Hell! Hell! Hell! Hell! Hell! Hell!
Marge: Bart, you're no longer in Sunday school. Don't swear.

Today, while driving, SATAN drove by me in a black BMW 325i... At least that is what the Washington State license plate had on it...

Later today, I saw "Transformers"...

God love her, I worked in Girl Scouts with a woman whose last name was "Slutz". She had two daughters. I'm all for tradition, but I would have told my husband we were taking MY name.
Also, my husband wanted to name our second son William Belcher for his grandfather. "What's wrong with Belcher - it's a good family name!" Long story short, we named him William Henry - the grandfather's Christian names!

I wonder what made the Hells think it was a good idea to send the kid to Catholic school, considering all the issues they're having right now.

That's crazy.

ps- I have family with the last name of Gross. My cousin told me that it's always really fun when you’re at a restaurant and they yell "Gross party of 4, your table is ready" :p

Gross is a really common last name where I'm originally from, as is Queer. A lot of people with the latter change it to "Quinn" if they move out of the area.

Like the Hell family, these names are probably of European origin (the 2 examples I gave, I would guess German) and don't have the same meaning in their original language.

"Hell" is the adjective bright or light in German.

Still, if I had certain last names I'd look into changing them: Ho, Dong, Fink, Butts, you get the idea.

An acquaintaince of mine mentioned that she knew a South African Doctor. His name was spelled "Dr. Deith" but it was actually pronounced "Dr. Death".

How reassuring!!!
