Writing a Recommedation

Hi ya'll! I'm sort of new to GC and I'm a Univ. of Miami Alpha Delta Pi Pledge Class '06 :) I was asked by a friend from high school if i could write her a recommendation for ADPI at UF. I started looking around here for advice about what to include/not include, but didn't seem to find anything. Could you help me? I want to make sure I give a potential sister as much help as I can! Thanks in advance!

I'd recommend talking to someone in your group in real life.

They'd know more about how the recommendation might be evaluated, and they can tell you what you need to include without giving anything away about membership selection.

In general, I think most people would say that you should include her activities and personal traits that would make her a good member, the length of time that you have known her, and how well.

ETA: I didn't mean to sound like I was giving the old GC do-your-research-brush-off, but your chapter adviser could probably tell you even more in real life if there's anything beyond what ADPiUCF has said.

Sister,

All you need to do is fill out the Potential Member Profile, which you can download at www.alphadeltapi.org. Send it directly to the UF chapter.

If you'd like to include a personal letter to accompany the form, feel free to do so, but it is not required. This can be a brief note endorsing the PNM for membership and sharing some of her posititve attributes-- maybe taking some words from our Creed and matching them up to her accomplishments (IE: leadership, responsibility, high educational standards, loyalty).

Good luck to you both! UF has so many great sororities; I hope she will have the opportunity to join one this fall.

ETA: If anyone is wondering, an ADPi collegian may send a reference for a PNM at another university.
