Do people who constantly insult themselves annoy you?

I'm not talking about in a joking way, either. The people who do it in a self pitying manner... It seems like they're just fishing for compliments.

YES! That drives me batty. It's like they want people to feel sorry for them.

Oh, and great thread.:)

Even people who do it in a joking way get on my nerves with it sometimes. Like overweight girls who feel like they ALWAYS have to call themselves the "big girl" and laugh it off so that no one thinks it hurts their feelings...obviously they're not as okay with it as they want to present themselves.

Just agree with them. They'll stop :p

Hahahahaha:D

Yes. I especially hate girls who constantly talk about how fat they are (even when sometimes they really aren't).

Some people in general don't get that it's okay to be confident.

sbx_six_eye 07-02-2007 12:39 PM

It gets on my nerves!! When I'm around people like that I just let them talk and eventually they drop the subject...but it is still sad though.

The next time a skinny girl starts complaining about how fat she is, agree with her. "Yeah, you know, I wasn't going to say anything, but I think you really need to get control of the weight situation. You're really getting up there. Maybe you should lay off the pie and cake for a while? I know it's not easy, but the way you look right now... it's just not good, you know? I'm so glad you finally noticed."

It's really fun to watch her get offended.

Kevin 07-02-2007 12:47 PM

Why would this not annoy someone?

summer_gphib 07-02-2007 04:11 PM

It's just a lame attempt to get you to compliment them.

I like the idea of agreeing with them... maybe even add in that the extra weight is bad for their health? LMAO

Brilliant although I don't think I can pull it off.

It doesn't bother me when my friends who actually are overweight make jokes about it or talk about occasionally.

But when thin people or people who are thinnest in the conversation complain/insult themselves the most, it makes me think they are self-absorbed idiots. Am I supposed have noticed or care that you need to lose 3 pounds? I haven't and don't.

But generally, I like people who have a good sense of humor about themselves and a little self deprecation on occasion goes a long way towards showing that you have some self awareness and humor.

I think if someone makes the occasional self-depracating joke, it's ok. But I think it's super-annoying when someone is a Debbie Downer...always putting themselves down, always pessimistic.

Sometimes the truth hurts.

This is the way I feel. Joking and accepting your flaws is okay with me, if they really are true flaws.

But I also agree that people who do it only for attention are annoying.
