what are some common mistakes that guys make?

When a guy first gets to know a woman and then starts making advances at some point, what are some common mistakes that guys make? How can we best avoid "weirding her out."

I know some obvious things, like don't follow her around, don't call her 3 times a day, don't be too forthcoming, etc.. etc.... In your experience, what have been some subtle or not too subtle mistakes that "weirded you out"? What approach specifically works best when first getting to know you?

I hate it when guys tell me how attractive I am several times on a date, as if I didn't already hear it from him the 1st time. That's really annoying. It's even worse to call me after the date on the same night. I have a really good example of a date I had.

One time I went out with this guy and throughout the date he focused the whole date on me. I didn't mind him asking me questions trying to get to know me, but I wanted to get to know him too. He told me how pretty I was so many times that I finally stopped thanking him and tried changing the subject. Then he told me to forgive him for being so nervous but he gets really nervous around attractive women. To top it off he tried to kiss me on the 1st date and then he called me after the date on the same day. He just totally freaked me out. He was just too pushy. I told him I didn't think it was a good idea that we see each other again. There was more, but it's just too much to type. I just hate it when guys are too pushy, and I don't need to be told I'm attractive 100 times on a date. I usually don't get passed the 1st or 2nd date without the guy weirding me out.

I just like a guy to be more laid back, more relaxed, and not so uptight. I dunno, let me call 1st. I usually do if I really like the guy. I'll wait for him to call me 1st but if he doesn't I'll call him. Once I get to know him, I don't mind him calling me a lot during the day, because I like talking on the phone, it's just at the beginning that freaks me out.

Date better looking men with trained physiques. They likely won't find you as attractive.

Also . . . they tend to like to talk about themselves :)

That's the problem. Most people do like talking about themselves, but whenever I would try to get him to talk about himself, he would direct it right back at me.

I've only dated men that I've found physically attractive James.

definately do tell me you think i'm hot/ pretty/ beautiful, you want to take me out whatever, but if I say no or make up something,.... take the hint!!!

don't talk dirty on like the 2nd date... lately... the guys that i have been talking to... are such creeps about that... grossssssss

don't keep calling me when I obviously DON'T want to talk to you

CALL when you say you will if i'm obviously interested

follow through on plans...

OneTimeSBX 07-02-2007 10:17 AM

-calling me "boo"
-bragging about ANYTHING on the first few dates.
-expecting me to pay when they asked me out.
-not being honest. if you have 3 kids, thats ok, just let me know! (well, its not always ok, but at least give me the chance to decide what i want to do.)

being too damn eager. this one guy would call and give me his itinerary EVERY day.

Talking about his exgirlfriend. Smarter guys would be SHOCKED how often this happens. I DON'T NEED TO HEAR ABOUT HER.

Since this was bumped and the term of endearment "boo" was mentioned in it.. I have been wondering for a long time and have tried to Google it, but boo is too common of a word.. where is this from??? A song? A movie?? Help me out someone?

huge pet peeve of mine. in fact, my husband did it a LOT when we first started dating. it wore off once i told him not to call me until he could have a conversation without bringing one of them up.
