Flashback Friday: I luv the 80's

Ok "Geritol Gen" folks....TGIF and for some of us it's payday too!! WHooo HOOOOooo!!

Let's sit back and remember when we didn't have to worry about rising gas costs, mortgages and getting kids to and from practice:

Pick any catergory or categories and name one thing you remember from life as a kid (or teen) of the 80s

Fashion

Entertainment

Politics

Pop Culture Sayings

Science

Toys

Fad

Sports

School

I will go first

Fashion: The Gawd awful Jheri Curl...I still crack up over Michael Jackson's fire and the line " Follow the Drip"

Sports - Before Manning vs Brady there was Marino vs Montana

Entertainment - Eddie Murphy's Delirious, Beverly Hills Cop...and Stallone vs Schwartzeneggar

Fashion: Stirrup Pants and Spandex Pants! Oh I wore those all the time, with huge oversized tshirts (usually neon colors), big ole scrunch socks, and these funky gold metallic high tops. SOMETIMES a friend of mine and I would switch one shoe, so we would each have one of a different color. We were so cool. ;) I think that was my favorite outfit in the fifth grade. *lol*

Toys: JEM and the Holograms!! I had them all... and I had a whole room (yea being an only child and begging my parents that the extra room should be Barbieville!) that was set up just for Barbie. I built houses for them (besides the orange roofed DreamHouse). I had a mall built out of an old coffee table (that contained my McDonalds, a salon, and a store) and an apartment complex. I was a very creative Barbie girl. :-)

Entertainment: Square Pegs. I was watching reruns on Comcast On Demand. SJP looking like crap is funny. But it's quite apparent, drugs really did kill this show.

U know...before video games...we had such vivid imaginations when we were kids....me and my best friend had all the star wars toys ...whatever he didnt have I had and we supplemented with household furniture....and then GI Joe came (back) along...I was kinda dumbfounded that the small figures had shrunk from the 12 in ones that we used to make hump Barbie and pimp slap Ken with....

PS.....If I still had all my figures now.....siiiiiigh (ebay fodder) however, I still have an mint condition X wing fighter in the box....

Ooh! Fun thread. Here goes.

Entertainment: "Just let your Soul-Glo!" This line, of course, coming from one of my favorite movies EVER, Coming To America. There's nothing like Samuel L. Jackson making a cameo in this movie. LOL!

Fashion: Leg warmers. They were the coolest things ever!

Before video games?- I remember in the early 80s having a pre-atari game thing. It was cool- you could play "pong" for hours!

I also remember having cable- I think it was called "Cube" or something, but it had this HUGE remote that was hard-wired to your TV. It even had little buttons down the side so you could watch certain TV shows and vote on different things.

And I remember early MTV- with the original VJs.

I obviously spent too much time in front of the TV as a child.

Oh- and I remember having a Strawberry Shortcake doll that was "scented" to smell like strawberry shortcake- it really smelled like cheap perfume- but hey I thought I was cool.

Yep, yep.

Rainbow Brite and Carebears!!

And my mom made us matching NEON outfits and made us wear them. I still hold a grudge about that to this day. Also, I remember layering neon colored slouch socks. I was TEH HOTTNESS.
