It's July... what have you done to help with Rush?
It's almost July, actually. What have you done to help with Rush so far?
|
One of the things my chapter likes to do for recruitment, is during Freshman orientation over the summer, we set up a table, with trophies, pictures, awards and LEAD books and go out and talk to incoming freshman and their parents and have them come over to our table and show them and tell them what we are all about. We show and explain LEAD to the parents (which parents just love to hear if you haven't tried it), and explain the social, educational, and networking aspect of the fraternity.

We do pretty much the same thing at orientation. I'm not really connected with my hometown, and only like 10 people from there are even at school here. We've got some big parties planned on the lake with a riverboat dinner cruise. Just got back from a pretty sweet rush party in Texas at a brother's house, we got a local guy that he knew come play and it was awesome. Solid guys, and great time with my bros that I haven't seen in a month.

Here's the tentative UCO activity schedule:
June 16- BBQ and Volleyball at 1:00 p.m. July 4- BBQ and Volleyball at 5:30 p.m. July 20- Illinois River Float Trip Leave the house at 6:30 p.m. August 4- End of Summer Bash at 1:00 p.m. -- I'm thinking they'll have to do something other than volleyball. I stopped by campus yesterday taking the wife to a summer band thing. The volleyball pit was flooded. How it'll be ready for anything other than water polo anytime soon is beyond me. |
Perhaps you can just combine the volleyball with the float trip! ;)

We just finished hammering out 16 days worth of events TODAY actually :-P
(we have an especially long dry rush period, four weeks, or which the first two weeks are competitive....nine fraternities rushing a total pool of only about 50-60 rushees) some activities include: Broomball, going to a Trampoline place, billiards, a Luau with pork and virgin pina coladas, a dinner with the Ladies of SJSU, paintball, and a trip to the horce track. we got more low key bbq events with radio stations too. |
Now it's almost August. How is RUSH going out there????
|
We do the orientation table with artifacts too. As far as other rush events during the summer we have none. This sounds bad I suppose, but who actually comes to ya'lls summer rush events? I mean our campus is almost deserted aside from a scant few summer students. Is that who ya'll looking to entice?
|
Our chapter holds several events over the summer. I'm sure there are potential rushees at several of these things.
|
What we do is we get their names and numbers when they come to our booth and we see that they are interested...and the ones who live in town...we try and have a bbq at the house or one of brothers house who has a pool and we invite them over to chill...and to the ones who live out of town...we try and call them biweekly just to see what's up and let them know we are still interested in them to come to rush week

Summer wouuld mean apartment parties, lake parties, etc. We'd invite them to that stuff. Our summer lake party would be the biggest event toward the end of the summer. Hell, I met pretty much my whole pledge class at that party. |
Our first Rush Event is on move-in day. Our EC got permission from the ODU housing director to let our on-campus brothers move in early so that they could assist moving the freshmen and upperclassmen into the dorms.
We usually help folks move in and then have a barbeque right near the dorms and invite the folks we helped. Other than that, just hitting the summer orientation fairs every week and getting names/phone numbers of potentials. We have somewhere around 120-150 names so far... so we've got a bit of calling to do. |
