Sorority State Day

I've been reading about some organizations having a State Day. What exactly is it and what do you do there? Thanks for all your help.

The chapters of the same sorority (some fraternities do this too) in the same state or Commonwealth get together for a day. The ones I'm familiar with also include alumni. Some have a more business structure while others are more sisterhood/brotherhood orientated. However, there is usually a mix of the two. Some of the actives may include - but certainly aren't limited to - such things as meetings, workshops, meet and greets. And depending on how far the schools are located from each other, the State Day might include an overnight stay.

Aww, that sounds fun! Too bad there are no other DG chapters in Georgia...:(

Alpha Gamma Delta has International Reunion Day (IRD). What happens varies with the states, chapters, etc., usually depending on if there are other chapters nearby. Of course, alumnae are (should be) invited back to their initiating chapter. If they can't attend, they are more than welcome to go to the nearest celebration. It may only be a few members but sisterhood is togetherness.

At the 2000 Convention, the Georgia chapters got together and decided that instead of the annual statewide gathering of all our chapters, we would have a statewide IRD every 4 years. This was because the size of the chapters and traveling distances.

I have been to IRD in Georgia, Texas and California. One of the best moments is the tradition of reading the individual chapter names, schools and locations of every Alpha Gam chapter. If you are a member of that chapter, you stand up. Yes, I was the only Gamma Tau alumna when I was in California and Texas, lol.

That would've been quite a gathering if all our chapters in California had gotten together when I was down there. I think we have 22. Our regional conferences, which all the officers went to, in off-convention years were always a blast. Somewhere I have photos of our chapter and some of our UCSB sisters in front of a very large nudie bar sign.
