V.P. Intellectual Development
I am the V.P. Intellectual Development for my chapter.
I am interested in hearing and learning about what other officers holding this position in other chapters do to make the most of it and what works well within their chapter. I am open to all suggestions and advice. Thank You. |
U of A AXO ID Program
Hey,
I was ID at U of A for AXO last year, and one thing I did with the program that everyone really appreciated was hire tutors to come to the house at no cost to the girls. If at least 2 members needed a tutor (so it wasn't individual tutoring sessions) then I would get one. |

VP ID
I'm currently the VP Intellectual Development for my chapter (Pi, UC Berkeley). I'm looking to pick up some ideas, but here some things we do:
*Alumni Tea in the spring to give members access to career advising *"Apple Pi with Alpha Chi" -- apple pie dessert/coffee for women in the chapter and professors they invite. * Study Nights once a week in the kitchen with snacks *I am starting an AXO book club this semester. *small treats/rewards for girls who score As on papers or midterms, or 4.0 for the semester. Hope that helps! I'd love to hear other ideas as well! |
It's been a long time, but here's what I can remember:
We had an Apple Polishing dinner. Member could invite a professor to the house for a formal dinner. Any member who had not made grades the previous semester was required to attend and invite a professor. It was a great way to get to know a professor outside of class. Sounds similar to the "Apple Pie with Alpha Chi." We had a "scheduling dinner." Once the next semester schedule had been released, the VP Intellectual Development would get enough copies for the chapter and bring them to dinner. Then, girls would make suggestions concerning classes within their major. (Example: I was a political science major, but everyone had to take at least basic American government to get a degree. I could help with professor selection based on different teaching styles.) This was especially helpful to the younger members. During finals, alumnae and our house mom would have snacktime at midnight every night. I think the book club is a great idea. |
our vp intellectual development does a bunch of stuff throughout the year
-red carnations for people on the dean's list, gift cards for girls with a 4.0 -"Smarties box" is passed around at meeting, write on a slip of paper if you got an A on something that week, at the end three names are drawn for prizes -Book club (but it hasn't been super successful) -Apple Pie with Alpha Chi -AXO Coffeehouse (a talent show where people sing/dance/play piano/read poetry, or whatever else they want) |
*We have study tables twice a week (you bring your homework and work on it in the same room in the house and you get points for going. We have 2 a month that are in the computer lab to gain some positive recognition for Alpha Chi as well)
*Pack the Library twice a semester (girls sign up for shifts and wear letters while studying in the library during that day to gain positive recognition for Alpha Chi as well as get some studying done) *Scholarship Banquet (very similar to the Apple Polishing Dinner) *If a girl gets a 3.4 or above for the semester, she gets a pearl to wear on her stick pin |
