Small School Greek Life
 

I'm a Sigma Chi out at Knox College in Galesburg, IL.
I'm new to GC and after reading a lot of threads I was wondering if there was anyone else out that at a small school.
Greek life at Knox, only 1300 students, is really laid back in comparison to what it seems like one these boards.

So just wondering
How big is your school?
How many Greek organizations are at your school?
How much influence do they have?
And anything else that's interesting

I go to a BIG school and we only have 5 NPCs, 9 NICs, and 5 NPHCs

Small School Greek Life
 

Well, I graduated two years ago, but my school is still the same with reference to Greek Life and school size. We had about the same amount of students and only 4 Panhellenic sororities, and one fraternity. In comparison to the size of the school, Greek Life is very strong. Thirty percent of all students participate in Greek Life, and the majority of the leaders of campus organizations are run by Greeks. It is also pretty laid back, and I am glad it was like that. The sororities are definitely more competitive, though (of course). There used to be two fraternities, but one was only a local.

My alma mater has about 3,000 undergrads, 30% of which are greek. The school has 7 NPC sororities and 5 NIC fraternities. I'd say the greeks are easily the most involved students on campus, whether its SGA, honor societies, newspaper, RAs, theatre, etc.

at Arizona State we have 19 IFC Chapters and for Panhellenic we have 14 sororities. we are a really big school but probably like 8% of campus is greek. greek life isnt that strong here, which really sucks.

When I got to school as a Freshman there were 6 organizations on campus, and by the time I left there were only 2 that still had charters, and one was on probation. How sick is that.

While my campus is much younger than Hanover, the Greek involvment in student leadership postions are very similar. The vast majority of SG officals have been Greek, both past and present. Almost every single activity on campus has at least one Greek involved, and many times in a leadership postion.

My campus has about 16,000 students with 12 fraternities, and 10 sororites with those numbers being a mix of IFC, NPC, NPHC, and local GLOs.

Greek life at my school is VERY small... less than 300 members in 3 NPC chapters(QFA, GFB, FSS), 3 IFC chapters (SP, SX, KDF), and 2 co-ed chapters (AHP and a local, Phi Pi Delta) out of roughly 10,000 undergrads. On the flip side, Greeks are very involved as RA's, Orientation Leaders (usually almost 1/2 are Greek), Tour Guides, etc.

Welcome to the Knox Campus! I am a Tri Delt Alum from Knox. After reading these boards, yes Knox is very laid back.

My school has probably less than 1200 people! We have four NPC sororities, five IFC fraternities, two NPHC sororities, and one NPHC fraternity. I would say GLOS have a pretty good influence. Most people in leadership positions are in a GLO as is the majority of the campus. We have plenty of independents as well but many tend to not be as involved in leadership positions.

I think my favorite aspect of our Greek Life is that because the school is small, we're commited to our individual GLOs but interact with all the other organizations. I have a best friend in each of the other sororities (not hard hehe) and socialize fairly regularly with about three of the fraternities. I love small school greek life because despite our size, some of our chapters are at the top within their respective GLOs. :)

I went to a very small private university in Oklahoma.
When I was there (91-95, 96ish) we had:
Pike: 35 members (est)
KE: 70 (est)
KA: 25 (est)
LXA: 60 (est)
EX: 55-60 (est)
EN: 70 (est)
Grand Total: 320 Male members TOPS.... That, my friends is Tiny.

William-Jewell College NW of Kansas City Metro is about 1300-1400 I beleive and have 4 Fraternities: LXA, SX, Fiji, KA and 4 Sororities: AGD, ADP, DZ, ZTA.

The Fraternities have Houses, and while the Sororities have dorm space, they are in the process of building Sorority house.

I was told about 3 years ago that @ 70 % were Greeks.:)

The guys houses are really great for that size of school! I hope they do the same for the girls.:)

Now, my Alma Mater, PSU of Kansas is @ 6500 people and have 6 Fraternities:

LXA, PKA, SX, STG, PSE, and PSK with TKE coming on campus next year.

3 Sororities: AGD, ASA, and SSS.

@ 6 % of school population are Greeks! Sad to say!

my school was about 3,100 people, with 2,500 or so being traditional undergrads.

We're an almost entirely local campus. 6 Local sororities, all over 80 years old. Tau Delta

We have students who join city-wide NPHC chapters, most prominent on our campus are AKA and APhiA, although I was seeing more and more DST letters recently.

Our campus is about 20% greek, plus or minus. It used to be a LOT bigger, but que sera.
