2007 NBA Finals worst TV rated in years

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070616/...kn_nba_ratings

NEW YORK - The NBA finals were a television bust. San Antonio's four-game sweep of Cleveland finished with a record-low 6.2 television rating and 11 share on ABC, Nielsen Media Research said Friday.

That was down 27 percent from the 8.5/15 for Miami's six-game victory over Dallas last year and 5 percent under the previous low, a 6.5/12 for San Antonio's six-game win over New Jersey in 2003. The NBA finals averaged 9.3 million viewers this year

It was horrible. The Cavs were easily the worst team to every play in the Finals, and the Spurs are, with out a doubt, the most boring dynasty in sports.

case in point: the NBA finals were on?

1) The Cavs were not very good. However, many people watched just for Lebron, so its probably a trade off.

2) The NBA is becoming less appealing to the average guy. Unless its a traditional team (Lakers, Knicks) or a certain personality, its just not that interesting to the average sports fan.

I can't stand watching the NBA. I love watching college basketball, but the NBA just annoys me. It probably doesn't help that it seems like the Pacers are on the local news every other night because of some stupid off the court antic (like shooting a gun outside a strip club).

On a side note, there is a new bball team in Atlanta...

"The Atlanta Crunk"

Its a CBA team, and I almost vomited when I heard about it. As if the city doesn't have a terrible image as it is.

As John Kincaid stated, "Atlanta already has one CBA team (the Hawks), we don't need another."

macallan25 06-20-2007 04:51 PM

Tell me the team is owned by a rapper.....please.

shinerbock 06-20-2007 04:57 PM

My apologies, its actually the "Atlanta Krunk". Apparently the team started in Charlotte and is moving to ATL in 07-08 (Thanks a lot, Queen City).

The team was supposed to be called the Atlanta Krunk Wolverines, but they've shortened it. I'm not sure who the owner is, but the coach is Kenny Anderson.

Oh how I wish this was merely some Onion article or something.

This could be just me, but the reason I feel that I don't really get into the Finals (unless it's a team I typically follow, or appears to be an awesome match up) is that I feel that they drag out the series WAY too long.

Case in point: In game four, had the Cavs beaten the Spurs, it would be THREE days before game five, and it wasn't as if the teams were travelling during that time.

Comparing the Finals set up to baseball, I can't recall that there's that much delay between games for the divisional, League championship, or World Series as there is with the NBA - that's why they pretty much lose me every year as soon as the Finals begin.

What do you think?

All of the posts above probably have some validity.

It might be that viewers/fans are getting a little tired of athletes attitudes and the constant runins with the law, etc.

Really, though, the networks cringe when a championship in any sport includes both teams from "smaller" markets. The folks in the "big" markets can't be bothered.

I don't really see why people say these Finals were boring. I enjoyed the games I did watch. I laughed at anyone that thought the Cavs had a chance. People that enjoy basketball as a whole more than likely enjoyed the Finals, but like someone said...its not drawing in the average viewer.

No, you are correct. The NBA playoffs are ridiculously drawn out. It seems like the Mavs were playing the Warriors like 3 months ago. Really though, I have no idea why they take so long to play a series....makes no sense to me.

As a true basketball fan.......I like watching the Spurs sometimes because they play the game right, fundamentally sound, etc. I usually become disinterested pretty quickly though when Duncan starts his bitch fest and Ginobili starts flopping up and down the court.

I just thought the games were anticlimactic, sloppy, and just plain bad. I mean look at game 3..........90 missed shots between the two teams. Usually when a team (in this case the Spurs) misses 40 shots in a game and can't break 80, thier gonna lose. But low and behold......the Cavs somehow miss 50 shots and lose by 3. Goodness.

purplewindex 06-21-2007 10:57 PM

To me, it has nothing to do with the amount of time between games. I am quickly losing interest because of the lack of contact allowed, the refs pretty much controlling who wins the games, and the flopping not being called a tech. There are just so many things that irritate me about the NBA that is making me not want to watch anymore.

That being said, I am so freaking glad Cleveland didn't win. :D
