Best web-based free email service?

I am sick to death of spam, so I'm cancelling my current email account and want to find a really good free one. Any advice/ recommendations?

Triple Ditto the gmail. It's also useful if you decide you want to download it into outlook/thunderbird/etc.

Cosign with this.

PLUS, here are some helpful hints dealing with spam and other unwanted emails:

Have one personal email address and one "internet" email address -- by that I mean your personal one can be the one that goes on your calling cards, sorority/fraternity email list, church list, etc -- anything where you KNOW the people maintaining your email address.

Anything where your email address has to be entered to register for something (message boards, commercial sites) use your "internet" address. You NEVER really know what happens to your email address when you give it to a commercial site -- it could be sold or used for spam.

Also, never type out your personal email address and place it on the web in guestbooks or blogs and whatnot. There are still webcrawlers that harvest email addresses for spam.

Yes saying yourname AT yourdomain.com will save you a lot of spam.

I'll admit to using my gmail account for everything because the Spam filtering is so good. But I keep my school account(s) clean so I can talk to my professor's and classmates easily.
