SC warehouse fire kills 9 firefighters

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Fire swept through a furniture warehouse, collapsing the building's roof and claiming the lives of nine firefighters in a disaster the mayor described Tuesday as "difficult to fathom or quantify."

"Nine brave, heroic, courageous firefighters of the city of Charleston have perished fighting fire in a most courageous and fearless manner, carrying out their duties," Charleston Mayor Joseph P. Riley said at a morning news conference. "To all of their loved ones, our heart goes out to them."

It saddens me everytime a firefighter or police officer die. They are just doing their job protecting us.

I weep.

I am always so sad to hear about any firefighters dying, but I am even more so because this happened in my hometown. May they rest in peace and that the Heavenly Father conforts their families and fellow firefighters during this time. :( :( :( :(

ETA: That fire could have been a whole lot worst. I know exactly where it is and it is next to a gas station.

Signal 5-5-5-5.

May they rest in peace.

(Signal 5-5-5-5 in the NYC fire department is used strictly to denote the death of a firefighter in the line of duty.)

This was so sad to see first thing this morning on the news.

As a Police Officer, I knew many Fire Fighters then and still do today. While we made fun at each other, it was all just that, in good fun.

When anyone in this type of work gets killed, it is a loss to terrible to fathom!

My heart goes out to their Families and Fellow Fire Fighters.

They put their lives on the line everytime they get a call to help either save someone or property!

May they rest in peace.

Such a sad loss...

One was engaged to a Theta sister of mine and they were to be married in October. I cannot imagine what she is going through right now. My heart goes out to the families of all 9.
