What is Greek life about?

I asked the question "Would you date a guy that was not in a fraternity?"

Many of you girls seem pretty nice and not so superficial...and just want to date a guy who respects you etc...which I like.

But many of you said "Well it's easier to date a Greek b/c of the time commitment etc etc"

What time commitment? The fraternities at my school don't do much beyond partying and drinking (3rd biggest party school in the nation). They claim it's oh so easy to get girls but it seems as though they are lying b/c I never see it.

I know the sororities raise money and stuff but the fraternernities raise like 250 bucks if even that...

It seems as if Greek life is more than partying (sometimes 3 times a week at my school) and drinking yet the frats have not told me anything beyond this nor do they do much else...

ive heard Greeks get good grades and do well in school etc... but all the Greeks I've talked to include GPA's of 0.7, 1.7, 1.2, and 2.3.

So...What's up?? Isn't Greek life supposed to be about partying, not remembering the last time you were sober (like 1 guy it talked to), and getting girls (or atleast lying about it).

*pls answer my question! im seriously considering going Greek but I want to make sure first if it's right for me or not*

actually no to yall who think i got denied by a sorority chick. i was jw..geez...sorry i asked!

The best place to get your answers would be from active brothers at your campus during rush/recruitment. Seriously - figure out what you are looking for in a group, and ask the men what Greek life means to them. You should be able to find a group with the same goals.

I don't exactly understand why you're considering a fraternity?

If you're concerned about your grades, those are always 100% under your control... or they should be. If you're worried about women, yes, the fraternity social scene is going to provide you with a target-rich environment. You still have to do the same work you'd have to do otherwise.

No one's going to really have the answers you're after.. at least not here. Just go through rush -- if all the guys you meet are toolbags, don't join. If they're selling something you're buying, join.

Can this post be transferred to Greek Life rather than dating? I thought fraternities and the men representing them are more than mere pimps, players and dogs...

If this is relevant to dating, well, I married a non-greek. He in fact hates members of the NPHC affiliates. But, after the 4 years of being married to me, his viewpoints are extremely different than they were a long time ago. That is because he sees how hard I work for my chapter in my Sorority. I may be different from most members, but I do not see that in my sorors in my chapter. May be you need to attend some of the philathropic or support concepts/issues of the organizations you would like to rush...

He must really like some chick who is into guys who are in fraternities. Too bad, because if he or she is worth their salt, greek organizations would not be the difference for a true loving relationship. Now, if all he is into is having sex... Well there are some "fraternities" he can join, that have dungeons, binders, whips and chains. He just has to decide if he wants to wear the zipper mask...

Lol true. And I"ve noticed that inter-Greek dating can sometimes bring on the most assinine drama.
