Funny about Love
Hi ladies. Have any of you seen Funny about Love with Gene Wilder. I wanted to get it as a bday present for one of our sisters but I was wondering how big of a role DG actually plays in the movie. Some of the movie descriptons on the internet only talk about an all women's school and don't mention DG specifically. Does anyone know? Thanks!

I've seen it...can't say I was impressed much with it. Wilder plays (I think) a writer - like the real-life guy at the Chicago newspaper who once mentioned Delta Gamma admiringly in a newspaper column. He goes to the Delta Gamma Convention to speak and hooks up with the DG assigned to escort him from plane to hotel to convention. I was embarrassed that this loose young woman was a DG...and the movie ended pretty sappily with him and his ex-wife getting back together after...I can't remember, she has a baby? He adopts a baby? Not among Gene Wilder's finest efforts!

Would this be something good to play at a DG COB movie night event? I just wanted to make sure it did mention DG by name and not just some random group of girls...

I'd watch the movie first. It's fine for DGs...just not sure I'd show it at a COB event. Do these gals even know who Gene Wilder is??!!? Oh, and Christine Lahti is in it. I think she plays Gene's original love interest. She's a DG in real life!

Here's the synopsis from IMDB.com:
"When Duffy Bergman, a New York cartoonist, meets Meg Lloyd, a gourmet chef, he discovers the love of his life and they marry -- yet love alone isn't enough to make them happy. Meg decides she wants to have a baby, a goal that initially makes Duffy frantic, but soon becomes his most important desire as well. When they are unable to have a baby, Meg begins concentrating on her career and the two slowly drift apart -- eventually separating. Later, when Duffy is speaking at a convention of the Delta Gamma sorority, he reveals that the Delta Gamma girls have always been his dream girls -- his Love Goddesses. There he meets the young and uninhibited Delta Gamma girl, Daphne Delillo. When Daphne moves to New York to work as a network sports reporter, their mutual attraction and Daphne's spontaneity spark an adventurous new relationship for Duffy. Now Duffy must decide which is more valuable to him -- the relationship he has given up, or the relationship he has always dreamed of having." The irony is that there really is a "Meg(an) Lloyd" on staff at EO..... |
