Enough time between Expansions?
 

I've looked up threads about expansion but nothing comes up to what I am really looking for.

I was talking about this earlier with a sister and we were discussing expansion on our campus. At our school, Chi O just colonized this past fall and Delta Gamma is colonizing in the upcoming fall quarter. Plus, Alpha Phi is coming back on campus Winter of 2008 (only one quarter after DG colonizes) All of us at Panhel are excited but it got me to thinking.

How long do you think a newly colonized chapter should have between colonizations (sorority A in 2007 sorority B in 2009 for example)? It's not that I don't want DG to expand, I really think my school could benefit from another sorority but I do feel that we should have had at least a year to really sell that Chi O is newly colonized.

What do you think?

Two years really should be the minimum in my opinion. If there's enough demand to add that many chapters that quickly why not do them at the same time???

One thing to remember in this particular situation is that this expansion schedule is what the college Panhellenic determined would be best for their system. Panhel was attempting to reduce overall chapter sizes to one that was more manageable for the realities of your University. I believe that the final goal was to achieve chapter sizes closer to 60-65 than 80-90+. That's why they expanded by two sororities and not just one. All sororities on campus agreed to the expansion plan, presentations were made, and Chi O and DG were chosen to colonize according to the University's schedule.

It might not work elsewhere, but in this particular situation I think it's a very good plan.
