I would love to rush Sigma Kappa...
Hi, I'm a 2nd year student at UC Berkeley. I decided not to rush as a Freshman because I really wanted to get settled into college and get to research all the different sororities. I really like Sigma Kappa, Lambda chapter, because not only have the ladies been very nice when asking my questions, but it seems to be the most diverse panhellenic sorority at my school. I also like that one of their philanthropic causes is Alzheimer's disease, which is a very important issue to me (a close friend of the family has recently died from Alzheimers). Now I am an African-American young woman, and I was just wondering how do you feel about diversity within your organization. The few ladies I talked to seemed to be very welcoming, but I am just worrying about the other members. Any responses would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

SK is very diverse. Especially in California! Good luck in your pursuit. :D

Its great that you feel such a bond with our organization & our philanthropy, I think that many of us can identify with Alzheimer's disease & how it affects our loved ones. Please DO NOT let yourself get caught up in ethnicity or even worry about it, Sigma Kappa is a diverse organization & we do not discriminate.
In the chapter I advise we have many different ethnicities represented & I do not feel like its ever an issue among the young women active within the chapter. Good luck while you look for an NPC home, and I hope you land where your heart leads you! |
My chapter is very diverse and the girls that we have are so welcoming. That's the first thing that I thought of when I went through recruitment was how open, welcoming, and friendly the girls were. I couldn't see ANY of my sisters turning a girl away because of her ethnicity. Though I've never been to the chapter you're talking about since I am from Michigan, I can't imagine they are any different from my chapter in that respect.
Good luck with recruitment (if you decide to go through) and please keep us updated! :) |
i just wanted to agree with the responses above. my chapter very much prided itself on our diversity. also, i think we had a lot of diversity in the sororities on campus in general. so don't be nervous about that, and good luck with your recruitment!
ps. berkeley sisters, i'm jealous of your beautiful house! our campus didn't/doesn't have greek housing. |
Thank you so much ladies, for your words of encouragement and for sharing your experiences within your own chapters. I do indeed plan to go through recruitment (it starts in August). Wish me luck!! :)
