Unique Custom or Ceremony
Dear sisters,
Tri Delta has wonderful chapters all across the United States and Canada. Do any of you Deltas come from a chapter which has some unique tradition or beautiful custom associated with your group you could share with us? At SC our presents ceremony is elegant and meaningful. Because of the climate it can be held outdoors. It is a family occasion which takes place in the front garden of the chapter house. Each new member is dressed in a white gown and steps through a flower bedecked arch and is "presented" to the guests. After the ceremony an elaborate reception is held in the chapter house dining room which is decorated with Tri Delta symbols. Could you share your special tradition or ceremony? |

wow, that looks so nice!
i'm trying to think if we have anything that classifies as a custom or ceremony. we're really too young of a chapter to have much set in stone. |
What is "presented"? Perhaps we didn't call it this
Thanks! |
Sorry for the forum crash, but I've noticed from talking to members of other GLOs that the whole "Presents" ceremony is generally a regional thing, namely from the West Coast.
I'm in Hawaii, and my Alpha Gam chapter has done the Presents Ceremony every Fall since our chartering. Kinda helps that several of our influential alums graduated from UCLA! The NMs are "presented" to the campus and Greek community. Campus officials, members of the different GLOs, and NM Parents are invited. We held ours in the courtyard of a girls' prep school that had a long staircase. The NM was usually escorted by a member of a fraternity and her name, parents' names, and hometown were read as she walked down the staircase. This is how she was "presented" to the community. It's here that she also gets her "alum chum". Not only did our NMs get showered with attention from her big, but she also got lots more from her alum chum! The presentation was usually followed by sandwiches and light refreshments. |
I love the idea of an alum chum. That sounds like it was a great way to foster alumnae relations. More chapters should consider developing something like this. Maybe I'll bring this up in my next alum meeting in August!

BuckeyeTri-Delta,
The "AlumChum" appears to be something you might also bring up as an idea worth considering when you attend convention in Chicago this July. I have some more pictures of Presents. If any of you wish to PM me I can send them to you. |
