HOT: Travel from Chicago to Memphis on 24 July via Amtrak
I may ride Amtrak from Chicago to Memphis on 24 July 07 en-route to Leadership Seminar. I may have access to a large stateroom in a sleeper (Family Room on Amtrak City of New Orleans). Please advise ASAP if you're interested.

There seemed to me nothing more perfect in travel than boarding a train just at nightfall and shutting the bedroom door on an icy, riotous city and knowing the morning would show me a new latitude. I would leave anything behind, I thought, for a sleeper on a southbound express.

Jono, Damn, what a literate reference.... Let's go, now! Yours in ZAX, Mike Raymond |
If only Amtrack would restart their service on the east side of New Orleans. They haven't resumed since Katrina.
I wonder how much it would cost me to fly to Chicago... |

I'm seriously interested. I was going to roadtrip with a bunch of guys from my chapter but now it turns out I'll be the only one going. and a 4 hour drive to Chi-town sounds much better than an 11 hour drive to Making Easy Money Pimpin Hoes Is Serious (M.E.M.P.H.I.S. if you don't listen to Three 6 Mafia...) Let me know some details.

City of New Orleans
The rail ticket from Chicago to Memphis is $89. The Family Bedroom would be another $173 - but split two ways. Something like $176 total or something like that. Departs Chicago @ 8:00 PM on the 24th and arrives in Memphis @ 6:27 AM the next morning.

Just so you know, the Amtrak gives you a lot of room, even in standard coach class, so if you are able to sleep sitting up, you may not even need the sleeper.
