Hilton's jail term cut to about 23 days Today at 9:52 am Paris Hilton will serve about half of her 45-day jail sentence and will be separated from the general inmate population, authorities said Wednesday. The hotel heiress will spend about 23 days in a "special needs housing unit" at the Century Regional Detention Center in suburban Lynwood, Los Angeles County sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said. Her sentence was shortened after jail officials gave her credit for good behavior, Whitmore said. Officials considered several factors in calculating the credit, including that she appeared for her latest court date, he said. Hilton will stay in a unit that contains 12 two-person cells reserved for police officers, public officials, celebrities and other high-profile inmates, he said. Like everyone else in the 2,200-inmate facility, Hilton will get at least an hour outside her cell each day to shower, watch television, participate in outdoor recreation or talk on the telephone, he said. The 26-year-old socialite was sentenced to jail this month for violating the terms of her probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case. A judge ordered her to report to jail by June 5. A call to her lawyer, DUI specialist Richard Hutton, was not immediately returned. Her publicist, Elliot Mintz, declined to comment. |

Now if it was Joan Schmoe in the exact same situation....she would have been put in with the general population ...no questions asked. |

The term "good behavior" just doesn't seem appropriate when used in the same sentence with this particular Hilton. Well, I suppose she could have a good -- make that reasonable -- side. |

That said...Joan Schmoe wouldn't likely be as big of a target in the general population as Paris Hilton would be. I could see why her presence in the general population would cause enough of a ruckus as to make things difficult for the jail staff. So, in that regard, I don't necessarily think its a bad thing to separate her from the general population. Not to cut her a break by any means (she doesn't deserve one), but minimize the chaos in the jail. |

Paris was just gonna leave long enuff for maybe long enough for kids to enjoy summer break...but as someone alluded earlier....you can get urself to go to a party...but u too distraught to go to court and jail....chick please....hehehe |
Joe schmoe probably wouldn't have gone to jail. Just got a longer suspended license or even pled down to a lesser charge.

ITA. She isn't worth the gas it would take to run her over. But I do think in the interest of keeping some measure of 'peace' they almost would have to put her in isolation. It's a shame, though, becasue she could use a good butt whooping. She is celeb-trash, plain and simple. ;) |
I think what we're all ignoring here is that anyone can ask to be taken out of the general population. I was reading a story about Richard Hatch going to jail, and at first, they weren't going to seperate him, but he requested it. The story mentioned that anyone can be seperated for any reason. Of course, many times, that includes solitary.
