Dream/Nightmare interpretations

I'm not sure if this thread is in the right forum, but if it isn't please move it. I'm not sure if any of you can do this or not, but can you control what you want to dream about? I can. I can only do it with the T.V. on though. I always fall asleep with the T.V. on and everytime I do, whatever is on, I'll dream about it. Some of the things that are being said on whatever it was I fell asleep on will be in the dream. Usually, I try to turn to something more positive to fall asleep on so I won't have a nightmare. Last night, I ended up falling asleep on a scary movie. I didn't want to, I just dozed off. Well, to make a long story short, I had a nightmare. Maybe it's just me. :o

Also I often wonder what some dreams mean. Everytime I dream that I'm falling, I never make contact with the ground. I heard that if a dreamer makes contact with the ground, he/she will never wake up. I dream about water a lot. Not sure why. I wonder what that means.

Your thoughts, is it just me or does this happen to some of you too?

Everyone has the same types of dreams. It just has a different interpretation. I always have dreams where whatever is happening around me in the natural is showing up in my dream. Two nights ago, I had a dream that my arm was hurting. Then I woke up and saw my cat standing on my arm. lol

Anyway, you are not the only one with those dreams. I believe that all dreams have a message for us. We just are not able to understand every dream that we have.

Yea Smiley21 is right on, dreams are basically a visual manifestation of our world, some have meaning, others are just what they are. There are a lot of books about dream interpretation and websites, but the best way is to keep a dream journal right by your bed, and when you wake up- write down everything right away. you can always "analyze" it later...
Freud said that dreams are the "royal road to the unconscious" ....

also, that is very common for you to dream about whatever is on tv, that external stimuli is being interpreted by your brain through your dreams. (thats why tv is disrupting for a lot of people before bed)

No, you will not die if you fall and hit the ground in your dreams, that is just an urban legend or whatever. Usually, you do not hit the ground in your dreams, i'm not sure why though. You know when you are JUST about to fall asleep and your whole body shakes and you feel like your falling but its just from like one step? That is your nervous system preparing for sleep. I could go into the technical analysis, but I'll spare you in the mean time.

Water can be interpreted a variety of ways, I tend to think of it as a symbol of fluidity, (water can take 3 forms, and obviously moves lol) can be a symbol of life, movement... it all depends on the context of the rest of the dream really and what is going on with you.

PM me if you want any more info....

I would recommend keeping a dream journal for a few weeks and see what you come up with :)

(I got my degree in psychology if you're wondering lol)

I heard about this thing Sylvia Browne has talked about, where sometimes when you dream, your soul actually leaves your body and goes somewhere. My friend said there was a story about a woman who kept dreaming that she was going to this castle in France, and finally she decided to go with her husband to find it. When she got there she just drove and ended up at the castle. She knocked on the door and the guy in charge of taking care of the castle got white-faced and told her that she was the ghost that keeps visiting the castle every night. I forgot what the term is called.

Ever since 9/11, I've had at least one plane crash dream a month. They were more frequent before, but I haven't had one in a while. I'm never on the plane. I'm on the ground. Sometimes it's just a plane crash, but most of the time it's terrorists trying to kill me.
