Texas Locals

Roll call-what locals do we have in TX?
I'm from a local sorority in Arlington (DFW) area and we're looking for a brother fraternity.
Also, just wanted to know more about what locals we have to possibly organize a TX locals convention.
When were you founded? What are your principals, symbols, etc.? Are there any locals with houses?

Just out of curiousity, why do you feel you need a brother fraternity?

I wouldn't say we need a brother fraternity, but we'd like one because it would be nice to have someone to be able to consistently do fundraisers and mixers with that would be reliable, have similar values/principals, be near-by and be of an equitable size. It can be difficult to do mixers with a traditional frat where there's like 5 of their guys for each one of our girls (that's probably not always appealing to their brothers). I have no problem inviting a traditional large sorority to do a mixer with us and a traditional frat so that sizes are equal, but the logistics can get complicated if they develop rivalries or disagreements. The idea had circulated that we would help a local brother fraternity start a chapter of their fraternity at our school and they would help us start a chapter of our sorority at their school, but that's not the main thing, just an idea.

LadyLight,

Is your sorority local or national?

A few years ago on FSU's campus, I remember seeing chalking congratulating the newest founding members of Theta Chi Omega's FSU chapter, I saw a bumper sticker, and there were some congrats on the guestbook. I never saw any website for them though.

I guess I thought that a local sorority has only one chapter-hence why it's called local (correct me if I'm wrong). Your signature has Alpha Chapter written on it, so would the FSU chapter from a few years ago have been the Beta Chapter?

chapters

We have a strong group of girls at NE Illinois who have recruited and thrived for years but are technically still a colony, we consider them the beta group. We did have a group of interests in FL (I'm fairly new so I'm not sure which Univ. in FL it was) but we couldn't get them to become a chapter because (as I was told) FL requires considerable insurance for all Greeks and as a small org we couldn't afford it. We've also had interests in Austin and Penn. but we are the only ones with full chapter status so we're a local.
