New Interest Group at The University of Akron
Just formed an interest group at the University of Akron. Looking forward to getting a good group men together to hopfully one day have a chapter.
Thanks, Jon |
Good luck with everything. I know James is a founding father, and I think there are a couple of others on the board, so you have resources here if you have any questions.
|
Are you still posting? Momentum is key. The colony program is a joke. . .so its really numbers and momentum.
|
yeah it does not seem to difficult...right now i have about 6 or 7 guys that are in the interest group and about another 6 or 7 who are interested. So i hope i can get this process done as soon as possible.
Thanks, Jon |
You dont have your email listed and it wont allow me to send you a private message. My email is JB63@uakron.edu please email me your contact info.
|
well we just became a colony last weekend and we are pretty pumped to get everything going so we can become a chapter as soon as possible.
|
The colony program is a lot better than it used to be. Work closely with the guys at HQ and you should be able to bang through it. Having said that, momentum is critical. Get all your guys involved.

How is the Akron colony doing?
How many members do you have? How does this compare with the other fraternities at Akron? Incidentally, what other fraternities presently have active chapters at Akron? Why is it not included in the list of active chapters and colonies on the Fraternity website? If the colony is still active, your AA and ARM should push to be included in the list so that Kappa Sigs everywhere, and not just those in the Akron area and who read these pages, can know of your existence. |
We are doing pretty good, we are at about 28 members which is about average at Akron. The other fraternities on campus our Phi Tau, TKE, Lambda Chi, SAE, Alpha Sigma Phi, FIJI, Phi Sigma Kappa, Theta Chi, Phi Delta Theta, Sigma Nu, and a local by the name of Lonestar...
And I have always wondered why it is not listed on the list. We are on brother services but not on the list at all. |
Thanks for the info regarding your colony's membership numbers and the other fraternities presently at Akron.
I would think that your colony should be able to compete very strongly against most, if not all, of those other fraternities. While any fraternity can be strong at any given campus at any given time, only Fiji, SAE, Phi Delta Theta, and Sigma Nu are among the top tier fraternities continent-wide. In addition to competing with them, your colony should be able to surpass TKE, LXA, Alpha Sigma Phi, Phi Sigma Kappa, and Theta Chi for members. Or are any of that latter group particularly strong at Akron. As I stated in my initial post, you and/or your AA, ARM, and DGM should contact IMH about having your colony added to the active chapters and colonies list. |
I contacted IMH about putting us on the list. They added us within an hour so that is all taken care of now.
|
Good work. It will be great to see the Akron colony included in the lists.
|
I have just checked the lists, and IMH has not listed you properly. Your colony is properly named the "Akron Colony" on the colony side of the listings. But on the school side they have listed you as "Akron, OH". That is the name of a place, not the name of your school. You should immediately contact IMH again and have them change that side of the listing to the correct "University of Akron".
The present entry is just another example of the sloppy job that IMH does with the listings. Look at the "Chico colony" listing. It uses that wording on both sides of the listing, when, obviously, it should only be on the colony name side, and "California State University/Chico" should be on the school side. But it has been that way for months, and nobody at IMH seems to want to be bothered to change it. There are other naming errors too, but I won't bore you with them. But you should contact IMH and have them revise your listing to show the correct name of your school. |
