Ordre du Croissant (1448)
 

So basically I have been doing some very small time research on fraternal organizations that we borrowed stuff from and ran across a few things on Rene d'Anjou's Order of the Crescent (1448). My information is very limited on the actual organization, however from what I have found so far, an interesting thought began to form.

On the OotC's Coat of Arms is a Lion Rampant on the inescutcheon, now my understanding is that the Lion Rampant came from TKN's Coat of Arms....so basically I just find it a wee bit odd that Mason took several things from the Order of the Crescent, but one of their symbols was also used by TKN (and not by us in the beginning), which we later took anyway. Just an interesting thought, oh and as sort of an after thought on this......I just checked TKN's Coat of Arms again, and the Lion up there is at the top........so did Mason re-check his notes and have it placed in the center of ours because of Rene d'Anjou or is it just an odd coincidence?

Can anyone explain this to me better?...Jono.......Tom........Mike......Chris??? ?

Small side note.....the Lion from Rene d'Anjou is NOT holding a rose....however the Lion does look almost exactly the same.

Would be interesting to know what the original books Mason used were....

This device was sometimes used in heraldry to indicate a merger of families, with an item from one families coat of arms being placed upon the coat of arms of a second family to suggest marriage or other merger.

john1082, this is vedry interesting, but if one looks at Heraldy the Lion Rampant looks pretty much the same as In King Richard or Aurther of Camolet fame!:)

As to the wedding of two Fraternities that would make sense and TKN did have the Lion Rampant. But remember, theirs was red and looked like a ketchup spot when incorporated with LXA C of A!:D Ergo, the change of colors.:D

One must wonder with the second LXA C of A why there was no Inestcucheon(SP) with the back ground by Mason in checking this.:confused:

Along with this, has anyone noticed the color changes over the years of the C or A?
