Ideas for a Family weekend
Hey,
I am the new social chair for my sorority and i am trying to plan a family weekend. Does anyone have any ideas that could help me out? Thanks! |
I think it's a good idea to have your Family Day on a day when your sorority is doing something that parents would like to attend. We had our Family Day on the day of the big Greek Sing/Songfest competition in April. We had the parents come over at noon for house tours and lunch (spaghetti and salad). We had the house decorated with pictures of all of the events from the year. They got to see our slideshow from recruitment too. After they've eaten and seen everything (around 2:00), we give each of the parents/family a ticket to the competition & a Family Day shirt (which each girl buys for her family members). Once they have tickets, we let them leave the house and spend time with their daughters off campus. Then everyone meets up at the house at 6:30 to go over and cheer us on at Songfest! |
If there's nothing like Songfest, you could always plan around something on campus like a football game.

We just had Family Weekend, in which we had a little mixer at one of the nice hotels right on the beach on Friday night. Saturday was a cooking demonstration at Macy's for us and our moms, and a Padres baseball game that night.
I wouldn't split up the activities to just moms and just dads, because the dads were left on their own while we went to the cooking demonstration with our moms. My parents wanted to do something else that involved everyone, like a softball game. If you do split it up, make sure to schedule something for the other parent, like a bus trip around the city, or something like that. Good luck!! |
