New Member Gifts

Hey everyone! I need some suggestions.

During new member classes each of the new members is assigned one or two guardian angles, who kind of act as a temporary big sister for them during that time. They also give them gifts every week at each new member class. Next semester we want to try something a little different and have each gift reflect the S they are learning about that weak and I'm in charge of finding dphie gifts that do that.

here is what I have so far:

Self- A water bottle which they can use while at the gym and taking care of their bodies

Sisterhood- A dphie picture frame or photo album and an i heart pin

Scholarship - A to do list to keep them organized and a book mark for when they're studying

Social - Maybe a dry erase board for them to hang on their door to encourage communication between people on their floor

I honestly don't know how to incorporate Service into this theme

So, any help with more suggestions, especially for service?

Thanks a lot!

I'm not a DPhiE but what about getting them some of those stuffed animals or anything that supports a certain philanthropy. Kohl's has a bunch of those and my friend's big got her one.

What about ordering them these and having them fill?

It looks like it's $25.00 for 5.

I thought of that too, but they have activities each week that relate to the S and that I think would be considered an activity.

Maybe the service week could be the only week they don't receive a gift and it could symbolically represent how it's more important what they can give to the world, not what the world can give to them... that's my excuse for not having any good ideas. :)

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. It's often like pulling teeth to get anyone to participate in anything community-service related, so the "message" you send that week should be the importance of giving vs. receiving. Another idea I have is to look into other philanthropies that aren't so flooded, or that could more easily affect anyone at anytime (ie. domestic violence, mental illness, traumatic brain injury, etc.) and see if they have anything you can purchase to give to the girls.

i think that the giving vs receiving concept is a FABULOUS one.

How much money do you ladies spend per gift? times, 6-7 weeks? Cause our chapter is having a debate about what's "appropriate" for spending. Some girls have the money, and want to spoil their nm, but then other girls feel shown up, and big sis's feel they have to spend even MORE at revel. So we're trying to find a solution.... any advice?
