digital camera help
I thought I would ask your guru which digital camera i should get.
And why. It should be pocketable and take nice pics. Shouldn't cost a fortune. Preferably smaller than my Treo phone. Also it would be nice if I could get it in bestbuy or circuitcity because I would like to pick it up in the next day or so. Probably use it mostly for parties or bar pics. Thanks in advance. |
Mine is bigger than what you want, but I suggest the Canon family.

Fuji has always been good to me. This is my 2nd Fuji digital camera
http://www.digital-cameras.com/pic/3.../fake_2391.jpg ... it's slightly bigger than an altoids box, and yes - it comes in other colors besides pink ;) |

I have a Fuji Finepix v10 and I love it.

I've had a Casio Exilim for a few years. It has a ton of features and a huge screen, but can fit in a pocket. It takes awesome pictures.

I too have a Casio Exilim and have been totally impressed with it. My boyfriend teased me when I first got it, saying, "Doesn't Casio make calculators?" but even he has been won over. The battery life is awesome (I only went through half of the battery life while taking more than 300 photos over three weeks in Greece), the LCD screen is huge, and the photo quality has been great. It also comes with about 20 different "wizards" for different photo scenarios.
I would look at Costco if there's one close to you, too. I won't buy electronics/computers from Best Buy anymore because their warranty and repair service stinks! Costco at least has a generous return policy. |

I have a nikon coolpix, 3.2 megapixels... nothing too fancy, i like it- their newer versions are awesome, its easy to use though for sure. |
I have a Sony CyberShot. I'm not sure on the pricing since I got it for free (having parents who love to go to the casino has its perks!). I love this camera though. It's small and there are a lot of settings. Uploading pics is easy too.

I had a Sony CyberShot for years and it still hasn't failed me.
However, it's going to be retired soon, and judging from the glowing reviews from the BFF, I'd have to ditto what others have said about the Casio Exilim. Depending where you go, you can get those for less than $200. |
Also, if you want some reviews of cameras, visit Cnet.com. That's where I went when I was shopping for a new camera, and that's how I made my decision. Sometimes you can't find the cameras on their lists in the stores, since it seems like the manufacturers are releasing a ton of new models every year, but it's a good place to start.

Tried and true... |
Someone talk me down off the Buyer's remorse ledge.
I bought this one: http://circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=175897 http://circuitcity.com/IMAGE/product...TYLUS760BL.JPG Only in silver not blue. I went for the 150 dollar Sony cybershot that people recomended. They talked me into the 200 dollar Cybershot upgrade and then didn't have any of them. So I ended up buying the still more expensive Olympus 760. It was either that or this cannon : http://circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=174591 Sigh. I went out to spend 150 and ended up spending over 300 dollars . . sheez. I'll probably lose it. I only bought it for bar and party shots. ETA: My thanks for the input everyone. |
