Houston

Well since we have a topic posted on New Orleans, i thought i would make one for Houston, where i live. I have lived here my whole life. Please lets not mention things about how its the #1 most polluted city or things like that- i dont want any cut downs about my city please!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif Well i guess what i want to know is if anyone has been here, and did you have a good time, what did you do, etc.? Plus has anyone ever been to the galleria- dallas has one too. For those who dont know- its a three floor shopping mall with restaurants on all three floors, some of which are really high class, and a skating rink on the 1st floor. Its a great place!!!

I've never been there, but a wonderful guy I was dating moved down there this past fall to work at NASA!!! ::sigh:: So I've wanted to go visit ever since then!

bucutie02 11-14-2000 10:05 PM

you should come down one day, i dont really like Nasa, i think its too boring, but its great he works there. Going to see Nasa, and working there are two completely different things! I think you would like it! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

I've only been to Denton (it's outside of Dallas), but I love Texas so much!! I'm moving to Dallas when I get out of school!(May 2002)

bucutie02 11-15-2000 09:47 PM

wow your moving to Texas? how awesome http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif I havent lived anywhere else but houston and i always hear how friendly the state of texas is. Although i have met some unfriendly people, i think that overall it is a "nice" state, glad to hear other people agree! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

I think there needs to be a correction about the Houston Galleria. This place is not just high class, were talking it's nothing but class! It's the kind of mall that I get dirty looks at for wearing jeans http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif But eventhough I can hardly afford anything I absolutely love the shops.

bucutie02 11-16-2000 09:28 AM

Really Allison? I love going there also, but i dont feel that way when im there, and i certainly dont go all dressed up. I think some people need to realize that the galleria is JUST a mall, with a few extra things added to it and stop being so snotty, right Allison http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif The main reason i like going there is because it has all my favorite stores in one place, unlike other malls that have a few stores i like and then have to go to another one to just get something from ONE store. Plus it has better places to eat than your average mall, but over priced i will say! I live in houston and havent been there in a LONG time. My best friend is coming home for christmas, so we are definitely going to there soon!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

I've never been to Texas at all, but my fiance lived there for 3 months. I don't know where though, it might have been Houston. His uncle lives there now, but we can't afford to go visit him. Most people never visit my state (West Virginia), let alone a city here, so I don't really know what it's like to live in an area that gets a lot of tourists.

Mikki, I cant believe how much you have to pay on tolls in your state.

Trish 11-16-2000 05:06 PM

The best thing about Houston is that its only a 6 hour drive from New Orleans..lol.

Yes the Galleria is a nice place to be, except during the holiday rush!!

I will be in Houston on business at the beginning of January. Any recommendations on what I should see while I am there?

My family moved to Houston my second year of college. I live in San Antonio, about 3 hours away. About 30% of the kids I went to school (college) with were from Houston. Great place to visit, just don't raise kids there. Messes 'em up something terreble. Must be the heat. For those of you old timers on here, You know who is from there - PROVING my point. Anyway, we are doing the holidays in Houston this year. I had avoided it till now. Not that I totally hate Houston, it's just hot as all get out, the traffic is really bad, I mean really bad, (4 million people and like 2 freeways between them all), anyway, and the town is full of racial strife (the cops there are all about the racial profiling). so you can understand why when my parents told me they were moving there I was like, "no, please, anywhere but there." Think I could get a job with the houston chamber of commerce? Anyway, it is great to visit, just don't go in the summer. I'll end on a positive note, there are 1,000,000 different things to do there as well. Sorry bucutie02. I have had some good times there!

Been to Houston TOO many times throughout my life. My sister and her family lives there...SW Houston

I probably will be there next week!

bucutie02 12-21-2000 09:42 AM

Well lifesaver, i cant win 'em all! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif I am sorry to say you dont like houston as much as I do. I know you were trying to be sarcastic, or maybe not, but there are definitely a lot of highways here which means more than two. I guess I am used to living here and think its a great city. I rather have to deal with traffic and actually have somewhere to be afterwards, than be stuck in my dorm room with nothing to do.... my memories from waco!! And yes it is VERY hot here in the summer and then some but I do believe that this year some parts of our country were getting extreme measures of heat too! The racial strife? I dont agree on that, houston is a very diverse city with all sorts of people, and i really dont think that people are all about racial profiling. The part about the cops, well maybe i agree with that but it doesnt just apply to houston. If you ask me, i rather have this racial diversity than live in a small town where everyone is exactly the same. Anyway, dont think I cant take criticism because I am not upset, but you know... thats my city and i have to protect it. Thanks anyway for your opinion, its nice to hear what others think of it! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif
