SOS Skit ideas
 

Ladies, I need your help. I am the Skit Chair for Fall 07 for my sorority, and as a freshmen this year, I am completely lost. The skit theme which we had found, edited, casted, and had started rehearsals is being done by another house, and there is nothing that we can do.

I go to a big southern university where greek life IS the way of life. Although my sorority is amazing nationally, we haven't been there as long as all the others, therefore we have to work twice as hard to get girls because everyone else has the "name." My sisters (most of them out-of-state like me) in my opinion are the most genuinely beautiful girls inside and out, and I would love to convey that to the PNMS. I wish that I could show them that our house is just as good, even though we've only been on campus since the 70's. I have done all that I can, and I've exhausted my options - being a musical theatre major I've had connections and even wrote my own skit - but none of this is working.

Houses on our row are doing SNL and Sex in the City, and all of the other houses are based on a TV show or movie, so in that way we have to stay competitive. I've asked headquarters, but it's just not working. If anyone could help me at all, please feel free to reply here. I would really, really appreciate it!

Did you contact your national recruitment chair? She might be able to help you out. Also, you can click on some of the threads that'll show up at the bottom of the page, plus just do a search under the word "skit." Just off the top some of the more current things I can think of are Grey's Anatomy, America's Next Top Model, My Super Sweet 16. (For the last - everything goes wrong during rush until she gets to your chapter - obviously, you don't want to imply that your sisters are anything like the girls pouting unless their Sweet 16 parties are right, LOL.)

First and foremost, please be careful with posting contact information on GreekChat. If you want people to contact you, it might be best to stick with Private Messaging or even AIM/Yahoo IM. That said, you may want to take your phone number/email off.

Second, try doing a search of Skit Ideas in the Recruitment Forum. Heck...if you scroll down the page, you'll see some threads already brought up for you.

Finally, since you attend a large Southern school where being Greek = life, chances are you'll have a regional recruitment consultant from your HQ that you could contact. Contact her because that's what they're there for. She would be a good point person for recruitment resources.

Hmmm . . . if you are doing tv shows, how about "Lost"? You could use songs from South Pacific, for example . . . and something about being stranded until "saved" by your GLO (!). HTH

How about "Deal or No Deal" ala -

Host: "You've already eliminated Beta Theta Tau and Sigma Mu, your Rho Chi [or whatever your campus calls them] is offering a settlement for Tri Gamma, deal or no deal?"

Contestant: "NO DEAL! I'm going for [insert your GLO here] or nothing!"

Host: "But Tri Gamma does [insert this, that and the other]"

Contestant: "No way - [insert your GLO here] has/does [insert all of the great things about your GLO here]"

Continue playing Deal or No Deal until the contestant ultimately ends up with your GLO and is ecstatic, etc.

Depending on the climate of your university you could use fake GLO names as the other "offerings" or use actual groups, but if you use actual groups, be careful what you say about them. As long as you keep it positive, I don't see a problem with using other groups.

Disclaimer: I came from a Midwest school that doesn't do skits, so all I've learned about the purpose of skits, I've learned on GC.

As much as I like this, I don't think real GLO names are permitted to be used.

I think it would still work with fake GLOs. Like I said - I've never been to a campus that uses skits, so I don't know what is or is not permitted.

There are skits posted on YouTube, FYI.

We did something similar (it was a dating show spoof) but instead of using other chapters, we used fake student organizations.

i love the deal or no deal idea!!!but use made up sorority names, not the name of ANY real sorority .

you could contact some of your sister chapters in your state(or region) and see what they do and what works for them. even if your campus recruitment is waaay different from theirs, they might have a skit which you could adapt to suit your chapters needs.
